i just got a new backpacking tent, hellla cheap. like 30 bucks, it only weighs six pounds.. definately an awesome deal, but there were a couple defects that i'm fixing with a sewing machine (nothing major). If they're still selling them, heres some super cheap packing tents from the site where i got mine:

yeah they look pretty solid.. waterproof is my biggest concern in heavy rains

30 bucks sounds like a fucking awesome deal! 6 lbs is a bit heavy though...how many people can it fit?

its a two person backpacking tent with a full fly and vestibule. And 6 pounds really isn't htat much man, its a freestanding tent, not a bivy-style or a-frame (i think its lighter than that cause the UPS package it came in was rated at 5 lbs 2 oz, so it has to be less than that). If i want to go ultralight i just bring a tarp without a tent.

Yeah that's not bad. I actually was thinking along the lines of ultralight or at least reducing as much weight as possible. There are backpacking tents out there that weigh only 3-4 pounds and are fantastic, albeit they do run for 1-300 $$.
