Why do men become excessively masculine when drunk?
    #4436581 -

I just got back from the bars in Boulder, CO. I drank a lot and got a nice buzz. I had a guy tell me that "I sucked" during a game of Jenga and I shoved my middle finger right in his face. This guy was 40 pds. heavier than me but I didn't give a shit.

When I am drunk I think about indulging in excessive violence and women. Is this drunk machismo normal? It is kind of lame but kind of cool at the same time.

I think I am changing. I used to be (and still usually am) very polite and shy. I think alcohol is expanding my mind much like shrooms or E has expanded the minds of a lot of you. I like being assertive and feeling like I have power. I think this is how men should be. We should not sit behind desks and be emasculated. We should fight and revel in our maleness (even if it is counter-productive or idiotic at times). I think this is how we were meant to be.

I apologize if this whole post is lame. I am drunk at the moment.

It's like the old days. The kings weren't stern ass Texans with a foot in the oil business, they were drunken brutes who owned gold and knew how to command the life of a man. Alcohol is age old in it's battle fury and rage to tear something apart from it's own values and sick unquenchable fires.

Or maybe it brings enlightenment to a person's mind?

Hm...thoughts to ponder.

Weren't you DUI on a scooter at one time?

Yeah, it's because alcohol boosts your confidence, a masculine trait. I think it's a great thing as long as it doesn't go too far. Some people just want to start shit for the sake of starting shit. They'll go out of their way to find an opportunity to act macho-- which tells me they're trying to overcompensate for their own lack of... something.

Then again, some people are just fuckwits (like the guy who said "you suck" at Jenga)

All alcohol does is make you stupider. Not necessarily a bad thing unless youre driving or watching "Jeopardy". Shit, i love alcohol, but you cant deny this is the primary effect.

I get all happy when I'm drunk. Its really hard to piss me off. Most of the people I know are the same way. However I do know people that get rowdy but usually its a happy rowdy. Usually at parties around here shit gets all heated up when somebody is being rowdy and obnoxious and it annoys and eventually really pisses somebody else off.

Yeah bro, I'm the same way when I start drinking. Like someone said earlier in the post, alcohol, for a short while, raises your confidence. So I guess some people use their confidence in negative ways and become violent.

Yeah, to put it short. Alcohol just suppresses your neurotransmitters, numbs you out, so instead of thinking, you just say whatever's on your mind without thinking 'would this sound right'? Boosts your confidence, increases testosterone production, bigger dick = bigger ego.

It does anything but enlighten you though...

You should indulge in drinking then.

Did you know that you can drink your problems away?

I've started realizing I've been getting drunk enough to be the jackass a few too many times lately.

Definatly not enlightenment.

I used to feel the same way. I never drank a whole lot up until about my 20th birthday. It was great, I felt awesome, I had a ton of friends, 4 or 5 drinks and I'd be feeling no pain. I felt adorable, I felt sexy, I felt like I owned the bar or club.

Turns out I was just drunk. Not only that, but I was a little bit of a slut when I was drunk too. I didn't take guys home or anything, but I would totally lead them on....for drinks. I didn't even realize that I was doing it. I thought I was just having fun and making friends.

I still drink occasionally, but I don't go overboard in public anymore.

So yea....alcohol can be 'enlightening' I guess...but it's not really enlightening so much as it's LYING to you. Much like coke, which I have never done but can only assume that it's very similar without the sloppiness.

There are certain situations where alcohol makes everything work just right, when the people around you are equally drunk, and you're all equally stupid... but the more I drink, the less often its been really fun. I occasionally get sloppy drunk now, but its rare, I prefer to keep it within a certain range.

This reminds me, I read about a study they did where they were testing how attractive people found other people while drunk. It turns out that you don't actually find ugly people more attractive, you just care a whole lot less. Actually having sex becomes the focus, who you do it with gets more immaterial the drunker you get.

People who are drunk start thinking less and acting more on their base instincts. We all know it's stupid to be a dick and brag or talk shit during simple games (like jenga), and we avoid doing it. Little kids tend to go way overboard and overreact, I'm sure you've all seen a five year old flip out when he loses a board game. With time we learn to control these instincts, but when we get really drunk, the first part of our brains to shut down is the part that controls our social interaction skills, and we start acting on our childish instincts again.

Oh yeah, I ran into my best friend from elementary school last night, and we had a few beers, we ended up talking about people we knew who didn't drink often, but would come out to bars and start acting up, often even more than the drinkers. He had a friend who was a designated driver and got kicked out of the bar after causing a scene when they wouldn't give him a free soft drink, on the way to the car he took a shit on someone's lawn. I have a friend who was also the designated driver, he stopped the car to pee on someone's ride on mower, and got chased off their lawn, then we went to a small children's amusement park, and he encouraged us all to break in and ride on the giant slides.

Some people can't handle their drinks, and others can't handle the pressure to behave like the rest of the crowd.

I don't think all men become "excessively masculine" when drunk. I don't think I do, anyway.

Can anyone here who's seen me drunk vouch for me? Do I get violent or angry? I always thought I was a happy drunk...
