advice on when to harvest buds

so if i had a plant would i be able to tell when to harvest by how full the actual buds were formed?. if there was some stemspace throughout would that be a good indicator of when it is mature enough to harvest?
or can it mature and be this way from lack of ferts?

Plants need to be harvested at peak potency... (duh  :smile:  )

Growers determine this by noting when the pistils at the bottom of the bud are turning brown faster than the new ones that are growing..

Or if you got t3h cash you can look at the capitate resin glands (the trichomes) with a 30x microscope. This is done when the trichomes are fully developed, but still transparent and slightly amber.

The first one is a lot easier and what a foaf uses when harvesting... :smile:

When all the little white(or violet) hairs turn reddish brown. And pick it during the hottest time of the day if you can. Also water, with no fertilizer, heavily before harvest.

About 2 weeks before harvest stop ferting, and water heavily...

Check the trichome heads with a 30x jewelry loupe. The hair thing doesn't work for every strain. I think waiting a week after calyx production stops is a better layman method...

Some indoor AK47 I've seen pulled was completely white haired with amber trichs. An outdoor clone of the same plant was about 75% red haired when the trichs were ready.

To flush, just pour multiple gallons of water until the water flows freely from the drainage holes. Do this about a week and a half before harvest. I then liek to let the soil completely dry out to simulate harsh conditions to pump out those trichs. Try to leave the plant with as little food to work with (water/nutes) before you harvest.
