Ok, I have asked this many times and I keep getting a similar answer on it.. Everyone says it really varies and i will just have to experiment with it.. I understand this but there MUST be someone out there who has used the 5 lb pack and dumped one full package into a bin. It would REALLY REALLY help out to know about what size Rubbermaid i should get so i can dump 5 lbs in and have it be approximately 4 inches..-----Maybe a little less considering there will be a 1 to 5 mix of WBS to poo----- The reason it would help so much is the location of this Op is going to be about an hour away from a store that has anything like it and I plan on doing about 6 double tubs.. (Maybe less) so if i buy all of these before hand and then when it comes down to it all it is going to REALLY suck if everything is off and I don't have enough to fill all my bins... I plan on getting about 40 lbs if that give you an idea on the scale I want this to be... I have the room so I might as well use it!

I would also be willing to cut down the number of bins and maybe double the substrate amount and get large bins.. Any ideas on how much would be needed to fill a large bin like the 64 L ones that mushroommark uses or the large ones eatyoualive has.
I know this might be a difficult question to answer but please try.. it would really help me out here..

Sorry if I have asked this before but I have been on these boards everyday reading for about 2 hours+ before i go to bed to make sure I get everything perfect. I will only have one chance at this since I go back to school in the fall and mushrooms are basically nonexistent where I live so a failure would really suck.. especially at this level.

For 4 inches of substrate, 5 pounds of poo, your talking a little itty bitty container...maybe 8inx11in, but thats pushing it. 5 pounds of poo, is like 5 quarts or so...to do a doubletub, you use big tubs..generally 10-35 pounds per tub.

that helps a little... So what, If i buy 40lbs of poo I am looking at 2 large tubs? the 64L ones? Or would it make sence to do smaller tubs with 10 lbs each so there would be less chance of contam..? Well, not really less chance... but if one contams i have more basically? What would you recommend?

I recommend more bins, then fewer...as you said if one goes, you want to keep the rest...but doubletubs work well with size...maybe split it into 3 tubs if you can?

Personally I prefer 5 lbs per container...with 2 quarts of spawn...but I use little 12 quart dishpans in a closet and I only like about 2 inches of substrate (2-3 maybe at most).
