Got a problem with some Tenn stud manure...
    #3944186 - 03/20/05 03:42 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Ok, so a silly FOAF bought some pre pasturized tenn stud poo (which by the way works waaaaayyyyyyy better than store bought poo/fyi),

but in the midst of the excitement when he showed his wife when it arrived, he dropped the bag. Well, it popped.

So, no spawn was ready yet, except one jar with like 2-3 kernels he picked out, and he used about 1/4 of the 5 lbs in a semi-bulk casing.

(ok, not really bulk since its only a little over a pound)

Well, monday it will be a week, and it says to use within 1 week after opening.

Remember his salad bowl with pounds of rice colonizing?

Well its like almost done, has less than an 15% to go.

The cool part is, he screwed up his injection spots, so the 15% uncolonized is in one spot. Should he operate, and remove the uncolonized part, and break up into the substrate, or should he just wait?

Pasturizing poo is out of the question at the moment, his wife isnt to happy with him right now...

Is sterilized poo that hard to work with? (like grains, or a bit more forgiving?, if so I guess I could sterilize and wait.)

Also, keep in mind, that salad bowl is was 2-3 lbs of dry rice, 5 to 6 wet, so it should be plenty for 3.75 pounds of poo, right?

Sorry, first real manure experience, (besides store bought), would appreciate people who really dont know wtf they are talking about to just let someone who knows answer, thanks.

I have searched and read, and I am aware of sterilizing, pasturizing differences, but sometimes real world experience is better.

and why can you not just pasterize it again, but you can sterlize it?

because he is in a hot spot with wife, no flying on that. That earthy/dirt smell isnt appealing to her, and she is quite agry with him right now.

PC'ing isnt in her face and the odor isnt noticable until opening the pc to remove.

You run a slightly higher risk of contamination with sterilized shit, other than that it performs the same. Be clean and use a lot of spawn (speeds colonization) and you should be fine.

How is putting it in oven bags in a pot with a lid, not pressurized more in her face then in oven bags in a PC? No need for pillowcases of shit or anything.

If you dont have a contam problem usually, and you have a sterile environment to work, you could probably get away with sterilizing it too though.

well, he figured to open the foil seal on the salad bowl. What he thought was 15 percent uncolonized turned into maybe 5%. Chopped about an ounce of rice away, broke the rest up in the bag and mixed thoroughly. A tad more spawn than probably should have been used, and it made him split into two containers, but still, at least he wont have to repasturize.

Well scat, the poo thing is easy enough to drop in a pc and sterilize for 20 or so minutes. But in the oven for a few hours, well, she wouldnt be to happy.

especially since the bag spilled out onto our new sealy when I picked it up not knowing....

Kinda like, keep the hand that feeds very happy. :-)

... the tennessee stud was long and lean
the color of the sun and his eyes were green...

sorry, that song always pops into my head when I either see that ad or see someone talking about it. Although there truly never was a horse like the tennessee stud.
