compost was inoculated aprox 1 and 1/2 weeks ago..temps are in the low seventies...compost is misted and aerated twice daily...top layer of compost looks white and fluffy in most areas...what kind of time frame for pins and what are the signs to look for

Well, many of the Panaeolus species are used to hot climates (i.e. Pan. Tropicalis) so don't be too afraid to turn up the heat a bit. You will need to case the compost lightly to achieve sustainable pins. And I think constantly accessing the colonizing compost, espcially with waterings and air will invite contaminants. Consider transfering the colonized bulk into a tray or something before casing.
