Left straw out for 20 hrs after boiling...still good?

Would straw still be good to use if it has been left untouched for about 20 hours? It still is damp and it still is in its pillow case. It has a cover over it.

Just wanted to make sure before my friend went ahead with his straw project. Thanks!

well you say you boiled it? should pasturize, not sterilize. should still be good after 20 hours, but it is recommended that you use it as soon as you can after pasturization. once it cools to room temp that is.

You should drain the pillow case immediately after taking it off of the stove. And who knows what temperatures you reached while "boiling" you need to get a meat thermometer so you can see the core temperature. I would throw away that straw and start over..personally

you know, i pasteurize in a cooler, using a pillowcase.
when done, i lift it out of the cooler and simply hang it into my bathtub,
which is obviously not clean :wink:

then i let it hand about 15hours or till i get to use it,
never had problems.
