Hehe... You try it... Remember the fabric softener though, it may boost potency.

Know that the common laundry machine does never reach boiling temperatures and that makes me believe that they are useless in this matter.

Also think of having straw stuck in your machine forever... and ever... and ever...

But go ahead and try it. The world would be a dull place without "mad scientists".

To Pasteurize you need aprox 75 degs Centigrade.
A laundry machine can achieve this easily.
Put the straw or hay in a pillowcase.
Spin it a bit at the end of the cycle.

Only thingf that would need caution I think is the fact that there may be detergent residues.

This is what I remember from another post
on this subject.

OK, Get one of those $12 digi thermometers from Home Depot, the one witha HI/LO memory. Surround it with straw, stuff it and the straw in a pillow case. toss the whole thing in your dryer. Runn it for an hour or so, then pull out the thermo and see how hot it got..

My thermo maxes out at 70C (158F). One of 2 things will happen. Either it will not get very hot, OR it may max out and/or melt. Either way it gives you an Idea what's going on.

cool. this sounds like a good idea but the common laundry machine in my dorm only goes for 26 minutes. Should I run it twice?
