incubation chamber heating method?
    #428962 - 10/17/01 10:08 PM (22 years, 5 months ago)

does anyone have any suggestions? I heard a heating pad sometimes frys the jars from the bottom, I was thinking about using a fish tank heater and just cutting a hole in my incubation chamber from the top, that sounds like it might work out.

work does everyone seem to prefer? I don't like waiting 25 days for a jar to fully colonize.

Look in http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=Forum2&Number=428342&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=for the incubation chamber I used.
I had a heat pad but I Placed it so it was like a + heating pad horizontal and incubator vertical. Not really vertical but do you get what I am saying? Then I placed the jars on the outer edges so the pad wouldn't cook the bottoms.
Good Luck
PS
the jars were quart jars 3/4 filled w/ birdseed and the fully colonized in 13 days, but I also had filter disks from Micron Magick

My grandmother tried using a heating blanket her first go round with pf type jars. She found this to be brutal torture which dried the cakes and rendered them useless. (even with the heat blanket at a mild setting)

She since has had great success with no heating aid at all. She just puts the 1/2 pint brf/verm jars in the cardboard box they came in. Note that she doesn't put the tape back on the lids after inoculation. She then puts the box o jars in a hepa filtered closet which stays at a solid 80-85 deg. She normally notices 100% colonization after 13-15 days (b+, treasure coast) ... She also noticed that the thailand koh sumi pink buffalo strain from LSOS colonized 100% in an amazing 12 days!

Maybe your jars are getting a cold draft? Are you leaving the tape on them? What strain?
