Incubation chamber

Ok i was planning on making a cheap incubation chamber and i searched and found a thread on making one with a fish tank heater and all but im looking for somthing more along the lines of less than $10. What about a plastic rubbermaid box sitting on top of a heating pad?? I have a heating pad already. i think that and a temp/humidity gauge inside would be cool.

If using a heating pad I would keep an eye on it they are notorious for starting house fires.

Heating pads tend to be bad - they're a fire hazard and sometimes bake the bottoms of your jars.

If you do use a heating pad, though, you will want to insulate it from your jars with some sort of heat-retentive material, like water. Keep a close eye on your temps.

My cat found a submersible 200W aquarium heater with a temperature probe and external thermometer for like $39. Works like a charm.

If you want to go really cheap just set a small rubbermaid tote on top of your refrigerator. you will be surprised at the amount of heat your refrigerator generates from the back of it. since heat rises it goes to the top of it too. if the inside of your home is between 69-75 degrees it will kick it up about 7-10 degrees.

If you happen to have a kitchen set-up with a cabinet above your refrigerator it would work well too. it's closed, dark and will be warm enough to incubate. It's warm enough to keep chocolate soft and pliable but not melted,so it's perfect.(Keep in mind that a chocolate bar in your pocket melts around 98 degrees and is breakable at regular room tempurature. you can double check with a thermometer and see what i mean but i happened to figure it out by ruining my munchie food by storing it in the cabinets above my fridge, haha) a dollar can of lysol off brand spray can be sprayed in there if your worried about germs and stuff.

that way you wouldnt need the rubbermaid tote or seedling heater pad. cheap as cheap can be.
