How closely does temperature co-relate to germination/growth times?
    #4263061 - 06/06/05 10:16 AM (18 years, 10 months ago)

Hi. I was wondering how important it is to be in the 80-85 degree temperature range for germination and myceillial growth.

Like, what would happen if the jars are in a 75 degree or a 90 degree environment?

I have read that thermal death occurs at 106 degrees, I have a location that stays at a fairly constant 90 degrees, is this still suitable or is it too hot?

Please give your opinions and observations about germination and colonization temps. Thanks much.

yeah 90 would be a little too hot it may not colonize and 90 would be way too hot for fruiting try growing in an ac room

Contamination will be favored at temperatures above 80F. I germinate, colonize, and fruit all at normal room temperature of 72-75. You'll be much better off avoiding wild temprature fluctuations as well. They'll cause condensation to form in your jars, possibly leading to failure due to excess moisture around the edges where they're exposed to the wild fluctuations. That can contribute to bacterial growth, as will higher temps. Room temperature is best, imo.

So room temperature is better than 90 in the absence of an incubator. Thank you.

How long would you expect germination to take at room temperature with very fresh spores?

2-3 weeks would be the colonization time.

I'm asking approximately how long before the first visible signs of germination at room temperature, with fresh spores on WBS?

3-14 days.

Id take 84 over anything.

But between 75 and 90, I'd take 75.

Yeah, could take longer....but I've never had it take longer than 3 days at room temperature.

Edit: Except for when I got a bad syringe and it didnt germinate at all, but that doesn't count.

Air temp...for jars. If were talking poo..75-80 depending on the casing size.
