Success with boiling jars?

I dont have a PC and have no plans to get one in the near future. I stick with boiling my jars in a pot for an hour and the regular PF Tek (BRF+Verm). How many of you boil your jars and get good success. My sterilization usually give me 90% success and the only failures i've had were due to other mishaps. How long do you boil your jars for? I've heard anywhere from 1/2 hour to 3/4 hour to a full hour. Right now I use a fully hour but wouldnt mind cutting that time down if possible. Just wondering, give your two cents if you want to.

If one hour works for you, then boil for one hour.

I guess you didnt see my point in posting this. I would like other peoples thoughts and information on success that they share with boiling jars. I was also wondering how long people boil them for because shortening the boiling time would be great.

Sorry, I was just giving my two cents. Before I got my pressure cooker, I too, boiled for an hour.

No need for a sorry. I was just clarifing what I made the post for incase, as it seemed, I didnt explain it right. What percentage of success did you share with boiling? I, one day, hope to get a pressure cooker but I plan to really get the PF Tek down along with boiling. Maby another six months or so and I should be able to do anything with the PF tek. Then, I might move onto birdseed, rye, etc.

a FOAF uses a big vegetable steamer to boil 5 jars at a time. He actually seems to think that in his particular case, boiling for an hour hurts the cakes (overdrying maybe?). He reports more success on boiling between 35 and 45 minutes.

I boil for a full hour. I have a pretty good sucess rate about 95+ %. I would be a little hesitant boiling for less time, since I live at a pretty high elevation (9000 ft).

Just wondering. What do you cover your jars with when they are in the boiling water? and how do you fill up the pot with water or half way or what?
Thanks
