Boiling helps but what you really want is a pressure cooker. If you want to find a cheap one, try thrift shops. I see them all the time for just a couple of bucks! Make sure it has the rubber ring on the lid.

I just give mine a good soap and water scrub.
It has worked well for me so far.

I wash mine out, stick them into the dishwasher on the sanitize setting and then prepare my substrate etc.

I always wash the jars in dishsoap. Nothing extensive. When you pressure cook or steam-sterilize you will kill off all unwanted organisms. Someone once said they could hock a lugey in their jars and steam sterilize with no ill effect. I believe it.

i boil mine as it helps as a pre-cleaning before i scrub them.
