Boiling jars with foil left residue

I just boiled 6 jars in a pot just large enough for that many. Well, I did this last night and let it sit over night to cool then. So this morning I told them out and the jars had a white residue on the glass below the foil. And some of the foil turned dark. I suppose its from that. The thing that really sucks is that the residue is white and so it'll kinda make it harder to see whats going on inside. Blah......has anyone had this problem?
Oh, and when i took them out i noticed the rice flour gew in size cause of water. Is this because of heat alone and the water that was already inside? or could this also mean that some water got in? I think its probably because of the first statement.
Damn, im really worried about contams on these, their my first ones.....im scared! someone hold my hand....

Ok, white residue, is probably calcium or something in the tap water, clean it off with a scourer or wire wool.

Blacking on tin foil, this is nothing to be concerned about, just a chemical reaction or something.

Try an experiment, go cook some rice for your dinner, it does 'swell', so do other grains, be calm, everything is going fine :wink:
