what size hypodermic needles do you use? Is 25 gauge too big?

25 gauge is smaller than the usual 18 gauge. Lower gauge = bigger, higher gauge = smaller.

25 will work fine. Spores are microscopic.

i should mention, they are for veins. I've never had to get them myself before so I don't know the proper gauges.

18G if you ever use LC, 20/25 will work for spores.

I am using 29G needle (hair thin) for live culture (storage) to agar plate. Honestly I wouldn't have thought it would have worked until I tried it, but it works perfectly and allows me more precision in application. Using only a 100 uL drop (1/10th a CC) per agar plate the plate explodes in growth in a day or two. This live culture was constantly stirred, though, if that makes any difference.

18g

But 20 and smaller is good for Vacutainers.

I noticed that my 18g's put holes in the rubber :frown:

for lots of good lc myc pickup without clogging the needle use 14gauge. There so big people wont be thinking your going to e sticking them in youryourself.

I agree with IGnosticAbhorI. After poking those septums about a hundred times, you'll be glad you used a 29G needle. Here's a place that sells 100 of those 29G for $20 (probably can find it cheaper somewhere else):

They are also sold for pets in some places (for insulin delivery of course).
