ISPs in Holland make commercials on tv, radio and billboards saying: "download the newest movies, music and games at full speed for free"

Do they do that in Canada or/and America?

Oh and we are very safe in Holland. Our privacy laws make it impossible for our government to trace us. It's against the law and ISPs use that for promotion... They are on our side(in Holland)

Well they don't. They're not doing it to try to quell copyright infringement, apparently. Their reasoning was that torrents use up ~40% of their total bandwidth and are taking too much of a toll on overall network speed, so they're limiting their speed. Torrent files are also 'different' from normal internet traffic, so they can just easily pick em out and slow them down.

All's I'm saying is that, if an ISP wants to, they could crush the whole torrent system pretty quickly.

And believe me, if I would have known about this before, I'd have DSL.

Yes, they "throttle" the common P2P ports so that the info on it is much slower.

Rogers Hi-Speed Cable recently put a cap on their users' bandwidth. 60GB/month for BOTH upstream and downstream. Shitty deal.

I'm on Time Warner's Road Runner cable and I havent noticed any reduced download speeds as of yet. Supposedly Time Warner is upgrading their hardware and lines to offer us faster speeds.

Rogers does this every year or so: they'll put a cap on the bandwidth you can use, which always results in a LOT of people switching to Bell Sympatico. Then a few months or a year later, Rogers will take the cap off and use it as an advertising point ("NO more caps! Join today!"). The cycle then begins anew.

For instance, you would be surprised (or maybe not) about the ammount of people I take support calls from who pay for TWO ISP's: they'll have DSL from their phone company, and STILL pay for AOL on top of that. They just don't understand that the DSL is their net connection, and that they don't even need AOL.

AOL, of course, fails to mention this to them.

Another example is NetZero's new "Hi-Speed" internet access...which is actually just dial-up internet with a little extra compression added on.

Not surprised in the least bro. hah. That's definately somthing AOL would pull. They are mergered with Time Warner now and a lot of people pay for both road runner and aol on top of it. As you said some just can't get it through their heads that AOL is not their connection to the internet.

Others just like the E-Mail service AOL provides so they pay top dollar when they could get a number of free internet based e-mails. Not to mention their ISP provides a POP address and what the hell is wrong with Outlook Express or one of the various other free e-mail applications you can use with your pop3 account??
