Love Pink Floyd...but
    #4182895 - 05/16/05 05:53 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Hey Guys. Let me start off by saying my first trip went well.

I have always been a huge Pink Floyd fan. I love all thier albums from Pipers to the Division Bell. I'm also a fan of Zeppelin, Syd Barett, Hendrix, the dead, Joplin.

Anyway, I'm just curious if you guys are aware of any other bands out there that are also great for tripping. Some other guys have introduced me to some techno bands, but I didnt find it very pleasing.

  Thanks for the help!

Some of The Doors music is amazing.

Try checking out the albums, The Doors, and Strange Days.

Those two are probably, in my opinion, best for the experience.
They both contain very, almost dreamy songs.

Tangerine Dream is also pretty cool.

beck, the flaming lips, boards of canada* radio head (sometimes), the spacemonkeys vs the gorillas (regge remix album) tool, cornelius* tabla beat science (world music)
*-kind of techno more composed noise than something like aphex twin or paul okenfold. some techno really blows.

i think theres some techno out there that you would like that's really good for tripping. the orb did techno remixes of a lot of pink floyd songs. the techno version of echoes is crazy. also, rabbit in the moon has some good tripping songs. i recommend downloading out of body experience off of www.rabbitinthemoon.com

all are experiences of a lifetime.

Sound like you're predominantly a late 60s to early 70s music fan, like myself.

Jefferson Airplane - 'Surrealistic Pillow', 'After Bathing at Baxter's' and 'Crown of Creation' are all fucking excellent

The Moody Blues album 'In Search of the Lost Chord'

Mid career Cat Stevens (especially the tracks The Foreigner Suite & 18th Avenue)

Quicksilver Messenger Service's album 'Happy Trails'

As someone above said The Doors

and The White album by the Beatles - not a huge fan of the fab four myself, but this is a brilliant (and their best, IMO) album nonetheless.

Listen to Groundhogs. There are several nice albums like "thanks christ for the bomb", "who will save the world" and "hogwash".

If you like Floyd you will definitely enjoy Parameter's album Galactic Ramble. Holy fuckin shit man, Galactic Ramble part I and part II are so intense yet mellow.. hard to describe; perfect trip music.

The Tooners are also another excellent band.

Genesis - Lamb Lays Down on Broadway is good as well.

Any Jethro Tull

As far as techno goes, Aphex Twin pwns Infected Mushroom.. IM sounds too much like Nintendo music to be enjoyable.

I'll second Tool and Dredg, I've only listened to AEnima tripping but I bet Dredg and almost any Tool would be good too.

You might like Shpongle, it's a sort of techno but with a natural feel to it, lots of different instruments from all over the world.

i think i understand what your looking for... and here are my expert recommendations :sun:

jefferson airplane - surrealistic pillow (as suggested  )

american analog set - the fun of watching fireworks (its not techno)

flaming lips - any of there stuff is amazing for trips, i suggest "hear it is" or if your feeling saucy, "zaireka"

murder by death - who will survive and what will be left of them (highly recommended for the adventurous)

ween - any album

los lobos - colossal head

badly drawn boy - the hour of the bewilderbeast

beta band - three eps (or anything else)

also check out explosions in the sky, arcade fire and elf power (this is not the sound your looking for, but they are beautiful in my experience for tripping).

i hope you enjoy some of these :sun:

(by the way, check out beta band and american analog set first)

Frusciante is a musical god.

His "to record only water for ten days" album sent me of to unspeakable depths on my first mushroom trip a few years ago. His music is amazingly deep. great for trips.

And any Dj Shadow is also great for psychedelics.
