Do I have to spread perlite all over my terrerium or can i just put it in a seperate container inside? And for air exchange can i just cut some wholes in the top of it and cover with micron filters? -thanks

CO2 is heavier than air, so if you wanted to do that, you would cut holes in the sides near the perlite level and have the air pump coming in from the top. Filters or not, you would create enough pressure to where nothing would come in those holes. Although, I would still put filters on if I did that. I'm lucky enough to where I can be here to fan, so i don't need to buy a pump.

No im not using an air pump. I want to use just filter covered holes for all my air exchange. So could i cut some in the top for fresh air and some in the bottom for c02?

and why do i have to use perlite all over the bottom? In a large container it seems like it would be a pain. I'm not saying this is wrong im just curious as to why it is.

you would need the pump to create the airflow. It wouldn't just go through the holes if you cut them. I would say either get an air pump, or just fan it. I'm not sure how effective mixing the two methods would be.

The perlite stuff is up to you. I think it would depend on how large the bottom of the container is compared to what the volume is. If you think about it, a larger container would need more perlite to keep it properly humidified.
