Starting with store mushrooms

I was going to go get some fresh Ports and Oysters to start my hobby.

I know this must be asked alot, but I did search for my anwser...

Can you easily use fresh store samples to start your own batch??

they are ok. I had better luck printing and transfering to agar but wither has worked

One thing I've found from cloning store bought mushrooms is the commercial farms expand their mycelium to an almost obscene degree to get the most bang for their buck. This leads to senescense, so by the time you clone the fruitbody, the mycelium is already at the end of its life. Sometimes you get a good culture, but often, especially with oysters, they are weak and poor producers. I've had the best results from cloning store bought shiitake.
