This is the year of sucky music from bands that used to be good

Of the new NIN, Weezer, Dave Matthews Band, U2 (last fall)and even Bruce Springsteen (we thought he couldn't get any worse), the best anyone can say about these albums is "It's not THAT bad. Sure they're not the band they used to be..." Even Green Day, when people get over the hype they will realize American Idiot is not that good and it's just like if you put Tommy (The Who) and the Decline by NOFX together with Nimrod. In fact, even the last Phish album was a bit of a let down, but here again it's not as bad AS some of those other albums. We shouldn't be buying albums simply because there is worse music out there. Of course Rolling Stone gives four stars to all of these albums. What a sad year, when all these bands that used to be good put out such disapointing albums and all people can say is that it could be worse. It's time to find new music because the last decade has completely fizzled.

Just say no to mainstream music. If you want consistently good music stay underground.

I'm gonna go out and buy some Wilco and Pavement. I've had enough.
You know I'm thinking about it, just who isn't on the downturn? Can anyone really say Hail to the Theif was Radiohead's best record? Modest Mouse is not quite what they used to be (but still pretty damn good), and this is even true to some degree with Death CAb for Cutie. Those two still have a chance. Snoop Dogg? No.

Queens of the Stone Age's new album is pretty good.
I agree with Divided Sky though on U2, Weezer and Greenday. But at least U2 and Weezer have been consistently good for a while, I've always thought that Greenday are terrible. Punk? They are the antithesis of Punk!

Agreed. The artists make most of their money from touring anyway. It's the record label that gets rich off of the album sales.

When I first listened to System of a Downs new CD I didn't like it much, but after I stopped trying to compare it to their old work and began to like it for what it was it's... actaully a decent CD.

Yeah. That Porcupine Tree was good. New Shpongle and Tool coming soon as well. The music coming out now is great. It's just you have to get good bands instead of shitty bands.

Haven't heard Porcupine Tree. Mars Volta, definately. But they are kind of new. Relatively speaking.
Here is another one for the list: Beck!
As for the NIN, it's not bad, but there is no way it was worth 5 years wait. The problem isn't awful albums, it's mediocre ones. All the Love in the World, You Know What You Are, With Teeth and Right Where it Belongs are the only tracks that should have even made the cut for that record, and even then all but the first two might as well have been Fragile B-sides.
Edit: I think it is imporant to point out that almost all of the crappy albums have been major label artists. There was alot of anticipation and hype and then let down. Newer and less mainstream artists have been doing better.

Yeah I dont want a album that I can listen to a few time then forget about it. I want to be hooked into the music. I must say Dave Mathews had some decent songs but compared to his old stuff BOOO. The new System of a Down is alright. I have started to get into under ground music where everything is different. Alot of artist are selling out to get into the mainstream IMO.

Amazing bands have put out amazing records this year, maybe just not the bands of yesteryear.
Decemberists - Picaresque Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy Spoon - Gimme Fiction Out Hud - Let Us Never Speak of it Again Bloc Party - Silent Alarm Caribou - The Milk of Human Kindness
and much more. And have you heard The Arcade Fire - Funeral?

You dont like sunspots that one or all the love in the world may be my favorite? Or whatever track 8 is?
I thought the with teeth song was one of the more flat songs on the cd.
