Wick water feed for Inner Resevoir Tek?

I've been using the Inner Resevoir Tek with my BRF cakes with some pretty good success, but its a pain in the ass to tend to an otherwise automated setup by filling the straws imbedded into the resevoir every day. I am also noticing that, while it does throw up a lot of fruits for the initial flush, they seem to grow in stages. I.e. I will see a lot of growth immediately after a water fill-up, and then it stalls for a day, more water...more growth. Like this it can take up to a week for a mature shroom to develop. So, I am wondering about imbedding a wick (such as for an oil lamp) into the resevoir and having the cake suspended above a water source (perhaps atop wire mesh) with the wick in contact so it can have a constant supply and draw as much water as needed. Has anyone ever tried this?? I know, I know..."just case the damn things"...but I like the sterility and simplicity of the cake unit. I'm thinking maybe stuff what will be the exposed part of the wick dangling out the bottom of the cake in a cut-down straw so the mycelium doesn't infultrate it and fuse it to the cake invitro. -Experience, critique, suggestions?

this isn't what you are asking for, but are you getting bigger flushes using the inner resivior than with normal cakes? Also try setting the cakes directly on moist verm. (use verm instead of perlite in the bottom of your terrium) And on pf's site he doesn't say to use the straws anymore, but what ever floats your boat. peace, Rashiki.

get small diameter soaker hose (like aquarium tubing size) and run that through your cakes and have them all connected and run a little water pump

Yes, I am averaging about twice the size of a first flush vs. normal cakes. I also have cakes that are still producing one or two shrooms a week that are close to 1.5 months old and are probably on their eighth flush or so. (dunno if its still considered a flush if only one or two come up) Do you know the reasoning PF does not suggest the straw idea anymore? I can't seem to get to thier site.
