Questions
    #2338729 - 02/15/04 07:50 PM (20 years, 1 month ago)

I'm 19, and it seems like everything in my life is in turmoil. There are so many things to worry about, so many decisions that need to be made. Some of them FEEL really important, but aren't (girlfriends, and so on). Some of them don't feel important, but probably really are (school, succeeding). I don't feel helpless, or out of control. It's just that it seems like it's a lot of work finding happiness, whether it be in a relationship, in a job, in an academic schedule.

My question is this:
Does life get any easier?
Do the choices you make get any more simple?
Does wisdom really arrive at some point?

Well, as someone a bit older and (hopefully) wiser I'll try to answer...

Does life get any easier?

Not really...but the things you now think really matter, don't seem as important 10 years or so down the road.

Do the choices you make get any more simple?
No, in fact they sometimes get even more complicated. But by then you'll have the maturity you need to see them through.

Does wisdom really arrive at some point?
It does. Wisdom came to me when I realised how little I do know. I know that doesn't make sense, but I've found it to be true.

I don't know. I've found that trying to be a good person and cherishing friends and family helps a lot. Enjoy the good times, and the memories can see you through the bad times. And remember, no matter how bad things get, this too shall pass.

Geeze I hope that was of some help to you, friend. At 33, I'm still trying to figure life out. I guess I always will.

Much Peace to you.

Oh yes, and the ability to laugh at yourself and at life can be a great help!

you're smart, dude.

you'll be fine.

just sit down and think about what kind of life you
want to lead and work towards that goal.

I used to have all sorts of drama, trouble and chaos
in my life around your age...I finally was able to
recognize the err in my ways and made an effort to
work as hard as I could towards rectifying that.

that goes for personal relationships, professional
relationships, education and seeking the positive
while shunning the negative.

life will always keep you on your toes...you just try
to better learn how to live it.

Your only 19...it is natural to feel this way.

You have some very important decisions to make in your life at this age.
I can not stress enough...how important a good education is!~
Get the best education that you can!~
Girls shouldn't be a heavy burden at 19...just date and enjoy many!~
When you are in a serious relationship...make it a healthy one.
Always listen to the person you are involved with...and be there for them.
Treat them the way that you would like to be treated...and you will have a better realationship!~

Your at a stage where you are going to be confused...and make mistakes.
The key is learning from your mistakes and moving on in a possitive way.
Try to take the right path rather than the wrong path in life.
When you get a little older the path way is a little easier to read...not always, but most of the time.
Do not repeat mistakes or bad behavior...that is insanity.
Always follow your heart...not your head...your heart doesn't lie to you!~

When you get a job someday...always give it your best.
Give 100% to your job while you are at work...then leave work at work when you go home.
Don't ever let a job get between you and your family...family is the most important thing in your life.
Always treat your boss and co-workers with kindness...do what you are told to do...even if you don't like taking orders.
If you don't like your job...find another one that you do like.
Don't ever settle for a job that makes you misserable!~
Don't become a work-aholic!~

My views on your questions from someone that is 45 years old...and retired :

Quote:

Does life get any easier?

The easiest time in life is when you were a kid before you went to school...and then during the retirement time in your life.
And life still isn't easy...just a little more enjoyable.
More freedom to do what you like.

Do the choices you make get any more simple?

Some do...other choices can be just as hard as they used to be.
Every day choices seem to be a little easier.
I think everyone has some hard choices to make from time to time.
Try to make the best choice possible...at the time...you can always change the outcome of any situation.

Quote:

Does wisdom really arrive at some point?

Yes...I think it does.
When you have children of your own...that's a real eye opener!~
I think wisdom is learning from the pos and neg things...and not repeating mistakes.
Wisdom is knowing that mistakes are just a learning experience.
Wisdom is realizing that you can learn something new...every day of your life.
Wisdom is sharing your experiences with others so they don't have to make the same mistakes that you made...without shoving your ideals down their throats!~

Basically...Wisdom is using common sense and good judgment.

life doesn't get easier, but you have more coping skills to be able to handle the shit that life throws at you.  Its kinda like, the more fights you get in, the more profficient you are at taking someone else out even if you've taken a few hard blows.

I haven't seen a trend where choices get simpler.. but its all a frame of mind. If you have a goal, it makes it easier because you make choices based on what will bring you to that goal faster.  So maybe setting up a goal of where you would like to be short term, and long term would help you out by making decissions about your life more "simple".  The problems you face wont be simpler, but the obvious choice of how to respond may be.

As far as wisdom, of course.  Look at yourself now, you're much more worldly and "wise" than you were when you were say 15,  so it makes sense that youll be more worldly and wise when your 22, 25 etc.  You're gonna face new challenges and make new mistakes, and all of that is going to teach you what works and doesn't work for you in your life, hence a form of wisdom.

Good luck kid, you're a good man.. i hope things work out for you and you can chill out for a while.

Life doesn't really get easier. The older you get the more likely it is that your loved ones will have already died. Plus, your own health will start to deteriorate. You'll get more and more profoundly tired and more and more sick of going to work and working at work and so on. If you can ever save enough money to retire you'll almost certainly be too old to really enjoy it. 19 is a good time, man. When I was 19 I just enjoyed dancing and getting laid and stuff like that. Don't expect it to get better, enjoy youth while you got it. I did.

Do the choices you make get simpler? No. For most people the older you get the more responsibility you have and the more invested you become in your job and other aspects of life. Decisions just get harder and harder.

Wisdom doesn't just arrive. Some people get wiser, some get stupider than Jupiter. Also, it's harder to learn new things like instruments and languages when your older so take care of your education when you're young. On the other hand, the main area where my brain has improved is with reading. My ability to concentrate has increased a lot since my early 20 (mid 30's now) so it's easier for me tackle heavier literature which is something that I really enjoy.
