Asperger's syndrome

I've been reading up on this, and I think I might have it. I've been to several specialists, most of whom have diagnosed me as ADHD, but at least one suspected Asperger's.
Symptoms include:- deficient ability to read body language(check)
- difficulty with making eye contact(check)
- obsessive level of focus on things of interest, often characterized by special gifts(check)
- ability to recall encyclopedic amounts of information on favored subjects(check)
- normal to strong emotional repsonses, but inability to express them or detect them in others(check)
- marked delay in development of fine motor skills(check)
- compulsive body movements such as fidgeting(check)
- tendency to stutter or repeat words when speaking(check)
- social alienation(check)
- advanced abilities in language, reading, mathematics, spatial skills, or music, often counterbalanced by deficiency in other areas(check)
Obviously this condition is a bit of a mixed blessing, as there are clearly certain advantages along with the disadvantages. Dr. Asperger noted that people who have it exhibit "an extreme version of the male form of intelligence," which explains why 75% of those who have it are male. It also explains why I have such an acute inability to relate to women or have meaningful and lasting relationships with them, which is another sign of Asperger's(this condition is notably common among "geeks").
I'm not sure what my point in posting this is, except maybe to make people more aware of it. I'm trying to improve my social skills, with some degree of success, and I've been working on my stuttering problems as well. I don't think I'll ever be very good at reading body language, and thus will continue to have social problems, particularly with women, but hopefully I can find people who can understand that and adapt to it.

Geeze, those symptoms sure can apply to many people. I've never been 'medically diagnosed', but, I am rather introverted. That is, I *was*, until I incorporated into my sober life the lessons I learnt from DXM. A good 1st/2nd plateau outing makes me very extroverted (or introverted if I so choose), very able to read people, etc. Sometimes social interaction is hard, because I can always read straight through people. I learnt to make direct eye contact with people, something that previously weed had not at all helped with.
I have greater understanding of and access to my deep heart-felt emotions, and I can better articulate them. I should point out, DXM lends itself to slurred speech if speech is contrived, or amazingly lucid and articulate speech if what you're saying is from the heart. It also showed me how to de-focus from my body, have faith in it, and allow it to move naturally, spontaneously, and smoothly.
I have talked to a number of people who think they have Asperger's, whom DXM helped greatly. I recommend it to you, for the mature purposes of self-introspection and self-improvement. I should caution, that if you don't make a concerted effort to develope your articulation skills with DXM and better understand your emotions, then you may have difficulty making sense of and expressing your thoughts which DXM will likely render more abstract in nature. It's important you're willing to work at it.
I know many people who take low daily doses, but eventually the lessons are permanent and the drug is no longer needed. If you choose this route, LMK how it goes.

I've been unofficially diagnosed with Asperger's by some tests and by a psychologist.
Although, I don't have the "social deficiences" I've no problem making eye contact, reading body language, and expressing myself emotionally (don't choose to do so more often then not)...
Motor skills are fine, and the social alienation is induced by myself... I really wouldn't have it any other way tbh.

I really doubt you have Asperger's...and if you've ever met someone with Asperger's I doubt you would think you have it, either
One of the highlights of Asperger's is their near-inability to interact at all in social situations. In many respects, a person with Asperger's resembles a person with autism (just not quite as severe). They may be gifted in certain areas (math and such) but are rather extremely poor at socializing.
Your interpersonal communication abilities, as evidenced by your postings here, are a sure-fire sign that you DON'T have Asperger's.

Oh and no offense man, but some of the things you said "check" for, I doubt you should have checked.
Things like "ability to recall encyclopedic amounts of information on favored subjects". I'm not saying you can't recall a great deal of information (you obviously can) but when they say encyclopedic amounts...they mean encyclopedic amounts. It goes far beyond the usual intellectual ability for fact-recall.

By that definition I probobly have asperger's sydrome as well, but I've never been diagnosed with that. Even I stutter sometimes when I'm nervous or around new people.
I actually met a guy who really had aspergers and he was a VERY unique character. Very, very introverted, socially akward, poorly dressed, difficulty speaking, and into sci-fi. I don't think you are very much like him at all Paradigm. I think you are much more socially conscious. If you had it, it would be a very mild case.
I think what you might perceive as Asperger's are just signs of your general personality type. If you buy into the labeling system, you seem like you would probobly fall into the Introverted Intuitive Thinking Percieving category (like myself). Most of that description corresponds pretty closely to characteristics of this personality type. Just my thoughts.

Yeah you should definitely read up on MBTI personality types, if you haven't already.
Being an INTP isn't a picnic. We're the LEAST common personality type (<1%) among the general population, which I'm sure only exacerbates the feeling of isolation and alienation we generally seem to have.
I would almost guarantee you are of the INTx type.

Actually INTJ's are . (From what I've read, the IN types seem to be the rarer forms overall)
Think INTJ/INTP are the rarest types though.

Heh, I thought INTJs were just slightly more common than the INTPs.
The two are almost the same, at any rate, and I've heard that INTPs will switch to INTJ at some points in their life, and vice versa.

Yeah, INTJ account for ~1% INTP 2-3% iirc.
The former site that I used for the approximate %'s is disabled, apparently the test has gone commercial (at least it requires registration now).

Yeah I can't find the site I used to use, either
It was an IP address, no domain name. Now it opens an animal-hospital

Ahh, thankful to google the site I had in mind is cached:
http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:DEI....htm"&hl=en
It lists the combined INTP/J types as only 1%.

i read a book called songs of the gorilla nation which i recommend, an autobiography of a woman with asperger's. she argues among other things that asperger's patients fall on a spectrum. some people are totally non-functional. other people can function pretty well. she makes it sound as if theres a lot of research that needs to be done and science doesnt really know very much more. she herself apparantly has done lots of research. you need an expert to tell you whether you have asperger's or not. i had an odd girlfriend (arent we all odd?) who was very functional, told me she thought she had aspergers and i downplayed this in my head as her wish to identify her oddness in someway. but then years later i happened to read that book and it made me think she may have been on to something, since aspergers is a spectrum, and a very functional person can be autistic according to that definition. sometimes having a label to grab onto helps a person to be at peace with themself. at least learning more about it couldn't hurt you. and finding people with experiences similar to one's own is always wonderful good luck.

Gotta love google.
Paradigm take the test, it could be a result of your personality type, and not an actual diagnosis persay of Asperger's Syndrome.
