Casing Contradictions
    #413656 - 10/04/01 12:36 PM (23 years, 10 days ago)

I noticed some contradictions in the casing methods from The Hawks Eye website and the Shroomery. The Hawk says to let the mycelium completely cover the casing layer and the wait for pinning. On the Shroomery it says this would be disasterous. It says that as soon as you see mycelium peaking through the casing layer you need to cold shock to initate pinning. Which of these techniques is right. Also I would appreciate any casing suggestions you have. Finally, any suggestions on how to lower the temperature of my terarium to initiate pinning?

Thank You

the coldshock can be done by leaving the mycelium in the fridge for 24 hours then returning it to the terrarium to initiate pinning.

Confusing isn't it? I say screw cold shocking. I birth my casings when they're about 1/3 covered with mycelia.

puscle....

do you mean you take the saran wrap off and introduce it to the terranium when 30% of the top layer is covered with mycelium?

I usually put the casings in fruiting container right after i case em. Works for me :). Sometimes u get early shroom buddies before the first flush too. Doing it this way can cause for uneven flushes tho.

i say screw cold shocking as well. but HQ always patches early growth, and waits til about 50%-70% colonized (lightly, not overlay) to initiate pinning (by introducing light and air exchange). patching seems to make the casing layer colonize quite evenly. for puertos though, she should not have waited so long as the myc. was so aggressive and took over the casing before she realized it. :)
