Another analyze my casing thread (pics)

Well I made this little casing just as a test subject to go along with my first grow. I also have 2 bulk substrates incubating right now but figured I'd use a little of my WBS to try a plain casing for the hell of it. Its been incubating about 3 days since I cased it. Here are the pics:
and
My newbie sense tells me that its coming up through the casing unevenly, so it isn't ready to initiate pinning and I should probably patch or I will have overlay in a day or two. However this is my first ever grow. I'm only basing this opinion on the numerous other threads I've read similar to my own.
So, what do you experienced folks say? Initiate pinning? Patch? Leave it to incubate another day?
Thanks for all your advice ahead of time! Love this place

I guess thats not bad at all for a first grow but you need to do a few things;
Patch up those spots where the mycellium is poking through, and wrap the bottom of the container in something man. When light penetrates the container mushrooms grow down!..not good.

Also, next time you might want to try to get your layers a little more level and even. Patch those spots and you should be good to go in a couple days. Looking good. Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. Hippie Chick

I do keep the bottom covered from light. Its wrapped in foil, I just pulled it down to take the pic.
I'll try to level it out better next time although I thought I'd done so when I cased it. Anyone have a trick for leveling your substrate? I'll patch it up and see what happens from there. Thanks for the tips.

Quick question here if I may.
I had to microwave sterilize some casing mix since I was out. So obviously it lost a lot if not all of its moisture content. Should I spray down what I just sterilized and then patch, or just patch it and then give the whole casing a little misting? I want field capacity moisture up until pins form correct? So I'd assume a light misting couldn't hurt the casing at this point?

Patch and go ahead and mist as normal. Casings can have higher humidity until pins form. Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. HC

Much HC, thank you for the quick response. I'll patch as soon as the casing mix cools. Puttin together a lil mini ghetto grow chamber for it while I wait
p.s. Should I go ahead and place it in the grow chamber and give it pinning conditions or should I wait until more myc starts popping up all across the casing layer?

I would patch very lightly and go ahead and place in fruiting chamber. Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. HC

For future reference, here's a trick to easily get a more even casing layer I heard about a while ago. Cut rectangular stips of paper with a consistant width (with the same dimension as your desired casing depth) and tape/staple/etc. them into a circle. Distribute these circles edge down on your colonized substrate. The width, being uniform for all strips allows you to easily eyeball the distance between the top of substrate and the top of casing. When done, carefully remove the strips with tweasers or similar device. Now you should have a pretty damn consistent casing depth.
