I swear some deadheads just dont get the fact that Jerry Garcia isnt God...and that GD music was never by far the greatest music that ever hit the face of the earth. They wrote some great songs that will be remembered fondly by a lot of people. Including me.

They go as I say, they do as I tell them. I am the word and my name is never spoken, the name which no one knows. I am called Ubik, but that is not my name. I am. I shall always be.

nobody shoudl be idolized like many do to jerry... i agree they were toatlly awesome, but best and beauty are subjective..
i do however feel, that if people decide to idolize him, they were going to idolize something anyway, so im glad it was such a compassionate, openly human man.

For some people I guess it was just the right kind of music and attitude at the right time.

I did read the rules. I'm just stating my opinion. I don't see how that's flaming.
I like the GD but as far as saying they're the best musicians/band of all time that's uncertain because I haven't listened to all of the bands/music produced out there.

Dissing the GD is like a de facto Pub rule
I like some of the GD songs I've heard but I really don't care for them that much. I think they're overrated but I can't knock other people for liking them... you should go to OTD where it's fashionable to hate The Dead. I love OTD but it really is a festering stew of groupthink.

Let me first say I love the Grateful Dead. But I've spoke with John Barlow personally several times (his daughter Leah went to my high school) and when I asked him about Jerry he told me that Jerry was actually a grouchy mean person alot of the time. Not always the amazing compassionate person that everyone portrays him to be. I don't know if what he told me is true but those were John's exact words. So as far as idolizing Jerry as some sort of god I'd have to agree that he was probably just a great musician and a normal human being.

has anyone else notice that sometimes listening to the dead is like taking a hit of nitrus? it occoured to me the other day, i cant really explain it, but they have that third dimention in thier music, that most people tend not reconize... its like it's own twilight zone episode, but things are only wierd from the outside, and everything on the inside is just normal.

Nope. I like their music, but it's nothing special. I can think of a few bands that can jam it 5X better than GD.

Jerry was one of the best musicians ever...I even put him up there with Gilmour and thats saying a lot
Jerry could play all kinds of differant stringed instruments Some people are just born with it.
