Saw this on another board, found it really interesting, even though I haven't really dug into the Dead yet...who's gonna hook ol' up with a good live show?

Question: Have you ever checked out any of the Grateful Dead clone bands?

Answer: "Yeah, but I don't think that's where it's at, exactly. Really, it's people who have to invent their own version of what the Grateful Dead is, starting now. There are probably people out there doing it. Doing their version of it, and it's certainly heartening when you get good musicians who seem concerned about their audiences, and who really love to play. The more of that you see, the better it makes me feel about the future of music. And the future of adventure in America, or whatever it is that Deadheads represent at their best. All that stuff."

great quote... but the sad reality is music= money, and the more backstreet boys and brittney spears the industry can turn out the more money they will make. sad sad sad really the REAL musicians today can't get noticed because teens are brainwashed to like whatever they play on the radio or MTV..

I have hope that that'll eventually stop....eventually the people with musical taste will get fed up with that stuff enough to do something about it. They'll make indepent radio stations and music television stations and when the people with not musical taste hear good music I'm hoping they'll maybe enjoy it enough to make true music thrive...slowly but surely... But I'm an idealist...

The other day I got into a debate with someone who said protests can't get taken seriously because of people getting all dressed up in costume and making it a spectacle..I told him, if that's all you can pay attention to, aren't you part of the problem?
Not to say you're part of any problem, 2Experimental :smile:, just saying that it's up to us, as true music lovers, to not pay attention to that shit, and help support the lowest of the bands to get them up as high as they can. I will tell you also that three of the best venues in NYC are under the booking control of some really smart people who love music more than anything else...they just acquired Webster Hall, which rivals Clear Channel's Irving Plaza in both size and sound now that's been revamped...NYC is a big center for music, so that'sa  good sign, bands now have somewhere else to move except for a CLear Dick Channel venue...things can get better.  I really think that.

I agree. I used to let all the bad music get me down sometimes..just kind of thinking about how much it all pissed me off, but then I just started ignoring it completely and listening to the Dead, and it's so much nicer. It's not going to go away if you give it attention, whether it's positive or negative.
