Ok, went and bought the rubbermaid container tonight: approx 2 x 1.5x 1.5 ft (25 us gal). However bitch-MART did not have any perlite nor was the home despot open. I came up with an idea for an alternate humidity source while sitting here looking at my babies waiting to be birthed. Has anyone used soaked newspaper laid in the bottom of the terrerium as a humidity source? I believe it should work, however i don't want to throw away my first cultivation attempt on a wild idea i had. I am itchin to case 50% in verm tonight and let the other 50% sit in the terrarium as cakes while the wet newsprint acts as a humidity source.

Please answer.

It could work, but you ight have problems if the mycleium is in direct contact with the paper, it will ethir start to colonize it or it could contaminate so just as long as you keerp adding peroxide so the paper donesnt rot. I i think you are just better off using someing else verm or coir even, even just plain water and bubble some air throuh it.
I dont know but i think it could cantaminate. i would be carful

put your cakes on little plastic lids like the kind that come off pringles cans, set them on the bottom of the terrarium with nothing else to provide moisture except spraying with an old windex bottle. spray H2O2 and water mixed about 9 to 1 onto the walls etc. if you have a bunch of cakes and a cased tray in a rubbermaid, then you don't need any humidification for some time. when you can get more verm or perlite, then put it in.

The newspapers problem is that it is carbon and mold/bacteria will feed off of it. The perlite works well because it disperses/holds water well and isn't organic. So, I wouldn't use newspaper.

Crunch up some styrofoam packing peanuts and use them in place of perlite.
