Humidity Question....

OK. first casing and first anything..........
Right now there is a casing sitting in a rubbermaid container about 1 foot tall. the casing is made with 50/50 peat moss and verm.
mixture 80% or so water, microwaved.
Question is this......the humidity was checked in the container and it was over 100. It is a shitty gauge ($20 target) so not to sure it is correct. Now i am thinking over 100 is a little to high. Is it? They have been in the containers i believe since friday..
Thanks now for your help;.

I don't think humidity over 100% is possible. The gauge is probably off. I've heard at the extreme ends (like over 90% and under 10%) that most gauges are not very accurate. I've read there's a way to calibrate them. It was something like putting the gauge in an airtight container with salt water (saturated?). The reading in a few hours should stabilize at 75%. Adjust the gauge accordingly. Also, the exact reading is not necessarily important unless it's your first time. You can use the instruments to tell what direction you need to go. If you succeed in growing, write down what your thermometer and hygrometer read and simply repeat those conditions. Some one else can point to where the tek is. I'm not sure if I'm right about that.

Duh, I'm an idiot. It IS your first time. The $20 target gauges probably are shitty. I heard the digital ones at Radio Shack are good.

no need for all that. with casings the humidity is fine in a small rubbermaid as long as your casing doesn't begin to dry out. i case individually in rubbermaids, dung spawned by birdseed and cased 50/50. only place i even have or check humidity or temp is in my incubator. and it is impossible to have humidity over 100%

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Thank you all who did not get STUPID with me.
i kind of figured the gauge was messed up...............
plus FYI, i did not go out and buy the expensive digital gauge because there is not need for it at this time.....When it is a newbie's first time there is no need to go out and spend $100's of dollars for a hobby they might not like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I paid 25 bucks for a hygrometer from a cigar shop online and its pretty accuarte. I had first bought one from walmart, where it has the sensor on a wire and I calibrated it today and it was only 1 % off. I was suprised.

Dude, I hope you don't think I was fucking with you. I was calling myself an idiot because I said a gauge isn't important unless it's your first time. I reread your post after I had already responded and realized that it was your first time. You and XAZIA are right. Cheaper and simpler is better.
