Coco Coir Question
    #4065999 -

i have a question, if i use coco coir in my casing, does the mycellium grow on top of the coco coir? and if it does, why cant i just take the the huge case and break it up and make even more cases with it, is that possible?

Good question, but here's why its not a good idea. When the mycelium colonize the casing they are growing into it for moisture, not nutrition - therefore, the growth contained within are more like moisture wicks to bring water to the substrate containing the energy souce e.g. grain Hope this helps.

"There is a world beyond ours, a world that is far away, nearby, and invisible. And there is where God lives, where the dead live, the spirits and the saints, a world where everything has already happened and everything is known. That world talks. It has a language of its own. I report what it says. The sacred mushroom takes me by the hand and brings me to the world where everything is known. It is they, the sacred mushrooms, that speak in a way I can understand. I ask them and they answer me. When I return from the trip that I have taken with them, I tell what they have told me and what they have shown me."

ok i think i understand what you are saying... so if i try to make more cases out of it, there will not be enough nutrition for they mycellium.

Sounds like your attempting to do something similar to a grain 2 grain transfer, however with BRF and casing at the same time. Others might correct me but i think this is a bad idea. Your whole process will have to be VERY sterile, ie/ the casing material/brf will have to be PC similar to how PF jars are made. As soon as you introduce nutrients into a casing, contaminations seems to become far more common.

IMHO your better off performing grain to grain transfer first (I think you can use a bit of your BRF cake and do BRF to grain ????) then making your casings as per normal - less likely to contam - more likely to get a lot of shrooms!!!

I just PFed to Grain transfered.

I have this PF jar that, after 12 days, finally started to show signs of growth. Its because it was the last .7 cc of spore solution in this PESA syringe I had. I guess the few spores had to find eachother before they could germinate. Anyway, now its about day 16 or so on that baby. I watched it to see when myc reached the surface so that I could pick out a couple of small marble sized peices and stick 'em in my mycobag with the grain i sterilized yesterday. It should work just fine.

so if i wanted to do somthing like that, i should do it with rye/grain instead of brf??
