light source??
    #405240 - 09/26/01 06:21 PM (23 years, 23 days ago)

I know UV is the best kind of light for growing shrooms. I was wondering if anyone knew if a regular bulb or even a black light emitted this kind of light. If not, is there any kind of light bulb that does, and that you can put into a normal light bulb socket?

I do believe that you can purchase black light bulbs for a standard light fixture that you find in a lamp. I remember one of my friends having one in his dorm lamp, worked wonders for his posters. I say check hardware stores.

I have bought grow light that fit in a regular light bulb socket. They were 60 watt and bought at Target.

Even a small lamp will work. The light only directs the mycelium where to start growing. It doesn't help them grow in any way.

My suggestion is not to spend your money on a grow light...As someone else said here, indirect light, say from a window is enough to indicate to Psilocybe Cubensis that its time to fruit - after that mushrooms sometimes tend to lean toward a light source, but only sometimes.

I agree, an expensive light is not needed and is a waste of $. I need artifical light in the closet that I use to grow and I only use a 15 watt bulb. I have had great results. Save your money to buy a good scale!

Is a continuous light source necessary or is the day/night cycle good enough for shroomies to grow?
Although, if light is coordination for the mycelium to grow towards as you say, then is does seem necessary. At least that sounds logical.
First time grower here, so sorry if i ask rookie questions.
Thanks in advance

This thread is 16 years old.

A natural day/night light cycle works fine.

If you go with an artificial light source, get a 6500k daylight bulb. And run it 12/12 on off.
