Honeywater Tek

I would like to cultivate psylocin using a liquid mycelial technique. Could I substitute honey for dextrose? Could I use the directions for the Honeywater Tek and just put a chunk of mycelium in the jar instead of spores?

Also, when the directions for the Honeywater Tek says "Sterilize for 30 minutes" does that mean I put the jar (minus the metal of course) with the honey/water mixture into the microwave and nuke it for 30 minutes?

A microwave gets hot really fast. Therefor, in thirty minutes all your honey/dextrose water would probably be relocated.

The 30 mins time is for a pressure cooker @ 15 psi...sorry I don't know how long it would be in a microwave, but it probably wouldn't be more than a few minutes....anyone else know?

Is Honey the same thing as Dextrose? Can they be used interchangably?

dextrose is corn sugar, honey is honey :)

hippie said a long time ago that dextrose was better than honeywater for doing liquid mycelium teks. i forget where, or if anyone cares. you can get dextrose at brewing supply stores.

i though corn syrup was acutlly sucrose from suger cane which cant be used for media, but i could be wrong.?

I have seen results from honeywater (as an innoculant)... I doubt that you can get much useable material (psilocybin/cin)from the liquid suspension. But you could use that suspension to innoculate some grain/rice cakes.
If you nuke a jar of honey water for 30 min in the microwave you'd probably end up with some dried up, charred, honey crystals.
Pressure cook it to sterilize. (with a pressure cooker/canner)
I reccommend 45 min @10psi (start the timer after the rocker starts rocking.

Yes you can. that is in effect isolating the doner mycelium's strain. Make sure you isolate a nice fruiting strain. (get that chunk from a nice shroom). If you use this to innoculate some grain and make a casing then your shrooms will be a single (fruiting) strain. All of the fruits you pull off of that casing will resemble that donor shroom.
If you pulled that chunk from say, a PF cake that was multi-spore innoc'd you'd have approx a 50/50 chance that you isolate a non-fruiting strain, and even if you get a fruiting strain you could get the old undesirable aborts(abhorts?)(I dont mean to bash you abort lovers, but compare a tray of aborts to a tray exploding with huge shrooms...yea I want the huge shrooms)

oh yeah one more thing to add you should put a little chunk of broken glass (maybe 3) in your honey/water jar it makes it easier to break up your little chunk of mycel when you shake it up. You can also clone (thats what we're doing right?) shrooms using just water and broken glass chunks that have been P-cooked.
(I remember some people going as far as mounting thier jars on thier blenders, to accomplish the same thing)

Corn sugar... alot different.

i found out that yes, corn sugar is dextrose (found at home brew stores)
