How To Celebrate Life?
    #4036256 -

Some times, shrooms show you things that you never forget.
On my first mushroom trip, I realized that no matter what the answer to existence is, no matter how we came to be, no matter how many dimensions there really are and no matter if there exists a God or not, the one thing that one can always be sure of is that the "I" exists, and this one thing is a huge miracle. Its wonderful to have the chance to be conscious and alive and to experience this moment, and the best way to show that one realizes the chance one has to be alive is to celebrate life. Everyone should be partying and dancing around one huge fire saying "yay" to life.

So this find is somehting that i hope will remain with me my whole life. If i ever come to tell myself that life sucks and its not worth celebrating, i'll know that i will have reached a point where life isn't worth living. Because you can't truly live life if you don't fully embrace it.

So my question to all of you is, how do YOU celebrate life? What do you do that could qualify as being a "celebration of life"? And if you have never celebrated life, what would you do in the future to celebrate life?

Can you really be sure that the "I" exists?
Descartes should have shortened it to "there are thoughts"
There is a reality, there are thoughts, a mind...that is all I think you can really know. Many people believe that the "I", the ego, is an illusion...that "I" am the same as you, the same as everything else.

it doesnt matter. no matter how many times you anylize this, and break it down into tiny thoughts. you are thinking, and you are experiencing. Or atleast I am, and im creating you, or maybe you are creative me, whatever. We are both here in this reality, or dream, or schitzo mind of someone, and in this _time_ we spend here, we are allowed to live, love, and experience.

I agree, this does require celebration.
I think that should make the mayan day out of time(DOOT) a worldwide holiday for celebrating life.

As for how I celebrate life; sadly, I don't - not too much anyway. I'm not proud of it though. Usually what happens is that my brain will rattle my skull and say "Hey dumbass, start celebrating" - and I'll try. But then I'll sink back into a state of apathy and take life for granted.

It's a real problem, and I'm not too sure how I supposed to solve it yet. Any suggestions?

Start to take your thoughts seriously and take some responsibility for your mind. Not one tangible thing is seperating yourself from your direct, fully-aware experience of life.

One can celebrate life in a quiet manner as well. You can celebrate by trying to be the best person you can be, help out others and maybe share a laugh or two and some goodwill with a stranger. But most importantly, one can celebrate by enjoying life, and also be thankful for what you have... :sun:

Thanx for replying everyone, but there was only one person who answered my question, psylocyberin, when he said "mardi gras".

Gomp and Toiletduk pointed out that you can celebrate life by finding a state of mind of continuous celebration, and make the best out of everything that happens in your life, but i know i can't do that because sometimes i can be a bit depressed and have no intention to celebrate anything.

So come on people, i'm looking for a concrete example of celebration of life. Give me a precise activity that deserves to be qualified as that.

Or is it that nobody has actually ever thought of celebrating life, or wouldn't know how to do it?

Live: To do whatever pleases you provided it isn't a detriment to others.

To do whatever the fuck pleases you, if it makes you happy, if it's how you celebrate it do it without fear of the how it is percieved by others. To simply live for you own desires, and your own inhibitions, without regards to the imagery associated with conformity, and the white picket fence ideal.

Live for your own ideals, live for your own pleasures, don't allow other's to sell you their dreams, live your own. It's not so much an action, as much as it is a mental process that results in actions favorable to the individual that undergoes it.

yay! someone answered my question! thank you. laying outside and watching the stars is a GREAT way to celebrate life!

i remember one time as i was locked outside for about four hours, i sat down and looked at the stars and realized how huge the universe is and how incredible it was to be alive, and all of a sudden i became extemely thankful for my existence and my heart filled up with emotion and tears came down my eyes. I cried to God.

anyone else?

That is great advice for me to take...but what about everyone else? Should they not be concerned with what I want and how they might be of service to me? This is my life so shouldn't it all be about me?

hehe, It only gets more interesting.

Don't be selfish in terms of your possesions, nor your personal gain, I should've elaborated on it, what I meant in terms of don't be a detriment to others. As long as your fullfilling your desires, and you are not fucking anyone over as a direct result, nor is it your intention to do so... then just live.

How might they be of service to you? Your Majesty, I'm sorry   j/k... but we shouldn't think in terms of how one can be of service to another, one should serve to the benefit they see fit in helping others... the greater focus is, how can we not be a disservice to others.

Your life, is ultimately about you, we can go on and on, about the self preservation of human beings and egoloss, but it really isn't applicable, as we all ultimately live, or rather should live for our own design without regard to the destruction of others designs. So yes, your life is all about you, I'd hope you wouldn't use that as a justification to be selfish though; wich I don't think you are, as you are unselfishly sharing your time with us.

Of course the 'I' exists, as Descartes seems to have proved.

And really, this 'I' is representative of a concept of self. So basically, all Descartes really said is that there is a 'self.'

So what? The question should now be "What is the self?" or "What am I?"

If I want to celebrate my life, or life in general, how am I to do so if I do not even know what I am?

Discover the self, and chances are you will discover the ultimate way to celebrate life. Perhaps you will realize that celebrating life calls for an equal celebration of death. Or perhaps you will realize that life and death are only separate sides of a single coin, and that you should celebrate the coin in its wholeness; you should celebrate existence. Of course, if existence is to be celebrated, then non-existence should be equally celebrated... Of course, we realize the two are again sides of a coin, and we should really celebrate the whole coin; celebrate reality.
