Opening Lids
    #402835 - 09/24/01 05:06 PM (22 years, 2 months ago)

Well i noticed that the mycelium had slowed down to almost a halt in growth. So i took the lids off (by the way i have them in a BRF/verm jar). Now the mycelium is really kicking up in speed of growth. But will taking off the lids affect the moisture in the jar? Or should it be okay?

Besides more chances of having contams you will surely have some moister problems, it also depends on the temperature of incubation, ie. if you have an eating pad or any other source of eat it will dry your susbtrate very quickly.
A tip, make a filter, grab a any dry textile wrap you can find (old well cleaned T-shirts will do, wash them with bleach) and cut it in squares of the size so you can put them in the jar hole and secure it with a rope or rubber band. Now put the jar(s) inside a container wich is (ie.) twice the size of the jars, a bigger jar will do, just flip it upside down, if you're using several jars, put them inside a platic bin and close it, open the bin lid or rise flipped jar to exchange some air once per day.
Sometimes they just love more air at certain point.

Peace,
MAIA
