Tennessee Stud Substrates announces the introduction of our Shredded Straw product. This is not just chopped straw. It has a fluffy consistency similar to straw that has been put in a blender, but without the headaches and torn up blenders. 2.5lbs of the straw has the same volume as 5lbs our Dry Basic Substrate. would u say the same for the standard pre-pasturized substrate? if thats stuff were siting around for a long time could u repasturize it and use it successfully or would that weaken the nutes in it?

To tell you the truth I have not gotten any negative feedback on any of my products that were used after sitting around for several weeks. However, I do consider my product semi-perishable due to the pasteurization process. I just feel the earlier you use it the better. Fresh is always preferable.
I'm more concerned with the 50/50 Mix because of the straw. From my experience straw tends to contaminate easier than poo. But like I said before--no negative feedback.
As far as re-pasteurization is concerned, I guess you could do that with either product if you really felt the need. Nutrition loss would depend on your pasteurization methodology (water-vs-oven). I still recommend using it as quickly as possible.

The longer anything with moist nutriant values sets around. The more apt it can become tainted.
Ones doesnt buy fresh produce, dairy or meat products & not use them (without REFRIDGERATION).........ASAP.
Simply because over time they tend to become tainted with one thing / or another & spoil.
The same holds true for a moist substrate.
FRESH IS ALMOST ALWAYS BETTER

On the flip side, I don't see any consequences to letting pasteurized manure sit for awhile, provided it's in a cool location.
Pasteurized compost remains good for months on end (6+ mos.,kept sealed), I don't see why hydrated manure would have a shorter shelf life.

What is the difference in material between pasturized and unpasturized? Let's say I got 5# unpasturized and pasturized myself? How much more would I have? I'm assuming the pasturized has more water content and is heavier.
Cuz I could get 5# unpast straw + 5# unpast poo for $35.
OR
I could get 10# past 50-50 + 5# free for $40
I could probably pasturize myself and get more for cheaper if the pasturized stuff has much water content.
