Everyone post your favorite methods for cleaning, sterilizing, and preventing contamination before it begins. Or after the fact.

1) H.E.P.A. filtered room dedicated for cultivation. 2) Glovebox 3) 10% isoproponal in water. 4) Colonize jars in a closed container, i.e., cooler, rubbermaid, etc.

my neighbor's cat insists that i do certain parts of the growing process, because she does not like to take a bath, whereas i do. she also insists on not being present during those activities. no other human beings not directly and activly engaged in the opperations are allowed in the room either.

Can anyone explain why the PF TEK still says tp pressure cook at 15PSI for only 20 minutes? Everyone else recomends aprox. an hour of pressure cooking. It really dosent seem to me that 20 minutes could possibly be long enough.

When doing BRF / VERM jars I load the jars up, crank the pcooker up and wait till the pressure indicator pops up and the rocker starts. Then I time for 25 minutes, then turn the heat off and take the jars out as soon as the indicator drops. darkfly

It seems like I read somewhere that one could eaisly over cook things and the substract could be too dry. I take it that pressure cooking for an hour at 15 psi has not resulted in to dry a substract.....

if you are following Pf tek strictly, then you are using half-pint or even smaller jars. the small size of jar allows heat to penetrate fast enogh that 20 min is all that is needed. also, the flour you get from a mill is likely allready fairly sterile due to heat in the milling process. the flour lands in the bag while still hot, and is sealed. formost reason however, is that with the small jar, colonization time is rapid enough to beat the contams, as long as you use sufficient inocculant. for begginers, i reccomend that you allow the licuid to trickle all the way to the bottom of the jar while innoculating in at least two holes on opposite sides of the jar. as you get into it, you may develope your own tek, for instance, i do not bother with the holes, and i inocculate the hell out of my substrate with honey potatoe water innocculant. this takes practice, and if done sloppily, gaurantees failure. others use only one hole, and use just a tiny drop of spore water. this results in efficient use of innoculant, but takes an eternity in which contams may gain access to and ravish your virgin substrate
