Overcoming Contamination
    #1125602 - 12/09/02 06:25 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

from a book i've been reading:
"Several weeks ago Joe had a substrate cake that was in a terrarium, and a contamination started to show itself, it eventually spread through the entire TOP of the cake and was a dark but recognizable GREEN. The cake was placed in a grocery bag resting on a bed of wet vermiculite. And just the other day Joe opened up the bag and to his suprise there were little mushrooms growing and the green are had been overtaken by white mycelium and could no longer be seen. Joe is very skeptical. Can he EAT THE MUSHROOMS??"

It?s possible that the "green" you have seen was just bluing from a too dry terrarium.

Once green has a foothold im pretty sure its unstopable.

It may apear to grow over with mycellium but the core will be rotten in the middle.

If it fruited well and is gone its likely it was just bluing.

There is a video on youtube of the mycellium beating mold its a multiday fast forward video.  Mycellium appears to fight back!
