UV Sterilization

I was in Physics class a few days ago talking about the nature of light when my teacher mentioned that the white metal case bolted to the wall was in fact used for sterilizing and did so by UV radiation.

The first thought that came into my mind was "I wonder if this will work on our projects here at the shroomery." I asked him more about it and it turns out its almost instant to sterilize. Anyways, I didn't want to hint towards mushroom growing or anything like that by asking him so I decided to see what you guys know about this way of sterilizing.

Would it damage/kill nutrients in mixture?
Would the UV rays get deep enough to sterilize middle?
and anything else you would like to add.

Anyways I very much doubt that I will be bringing any jars to school(It is my senior year though..hmm), but I'm curious just for the sake of knowing if its possible and a different alternative.

UV Sterilization

Works on air & thin films of water. Doesn't penatrate deep enough to work on much else.

Is also very dangerious to you, if your eyes & skin get exposed (causes skin cancer).

I posted on this awhile back.. UV-C could be used for water, the penetration isn't really that bad with water/clear things, but solids, it's a waste.. Water, tools, etc.. If made into a box could be handy, but it is very dangerous if exposed. Will cause Mutant Mushies.. So for some it could be useful, mostly just another toy.

Thanks for the clarification on uv lights, I was under the impression they would be nice for sterilizing a surface area but then again some alcohol would do just fine.

It would work very well for surface areas, just does not penetrate solds, I was looking at it as a sub for all the chemicals I am having to wipe, and spray around.. I don't like to use a lot of chemicals on most anything, so it's an option..

i would use it.. i am gonna install it in my glove box.. or beside glove box where it can shine uv into the glove box, so i don't have to clean all the area that carefully with alcohol.
just a simple wipe using alcohol of the working area, be it laminar hood or glove box. the let the uv do the job for an hour.. then start to work on mushroom..

i think it will be good.. i don't have to turn it on when i am working.. just as pre sterilize working area purposes..

sounds ok ?

what do you  mean by "bump" , i never really play with forum.. so. forgive me for being "new bird" in this area

and why i can't post on old thread ? it is never close.. anyway, there is still people replying.. if i recreate a new thread saying the same thing that other ppl said before.. is it good ? i felt like ... copycat other ppl's topic.

Because old threads contain old out dated info that new people like yourself will read and think is correct. When using the search function click the search our forum as opposed to typing in the box and clicking go. This will bring you to a new page where you can narrow down your search by putting a max age of 3 years and click the trusted cultivator button. If you can't find the answer then post in the forum. Bumping or replying to ancient threads annoys a lot of people and multiple 11 -14 year old threads really annoys people.
Also I'm not even close to rich. I'm a lowly mechanic with a kid just scraping by with house payments cars credit card etc. You don't need to be rich.
If you wanna improve your glove box for cheap pull off the gloves and make the arm holes bigger. This is a Still Air Box or SAB this is the current tool used.

Agars post is still relevant. To sterile you need to use uv-c rays I believe. This doesn't technically kill organisms but mutates and scrambles their DNA so they cannot reproduce.


Also causes cancer in people exposed to it so yeah there's that

You've got no reason to sterilize your glove box.
I hope you're using a still air box instead of a glovebox with gloves attached to the box, those stir up the air too much when you work and make it difficult to flame sterilize tools.

Even if you could sterilize the walls in a still air box you can't sterilize the air. You don't need to shine UV light in it or wipe it with ISO. Just spritz the walls with soapy water, and the air, and let it settle a while before you work.
