Humidity Problems

Allright guys I have a quick question.
In my rubbermaid terrerium: I can't seem to get the rh to go above 80%... I have 1 inch (maybe 1.25-1.5) perlite layer in the bottom. Right now, and when the light is off, the rh tumbles to around 55%. What the hell am I supposed to do about it? I'm alittle too poor for a humidifier, so i'm trying to manage. The perlite is completely saturated, and I am spraying liberally all the damn time. The temperature hovers around 83 or 85... and i just started the humidification to enduce pinning today for my cams.
Would weather stripping along the cracks where the top is fix this problem? I don't know if the weather stripping would fix a huge humidity disparity such as this.
please help me... I can hear my kids yelling for more moisture.
cheers and thanks in advance,
abudiwa

I would have to agree with chemmonkey. If the perlite was damp enough when placed in your grow chamber there is no reason that your r/h should be that low, in fact most find that using perlite it gets too high! Check your gauge. But, when using cakes don't get too hung up on the r/h, they are very forgiving.
I would also ask why your fruiting temp. is so high, normal is about 72 degrees.
Beans, beans the magical fruit...

Sure, I'll throw my 2-cents in too. It seems more likely that the problem is with the gauge and not the perlite. Is it digital? I needed to go out and buy a digital one after the $10 analogue proved to be worthless.
Hope that helps.

Ok, here's the low down.
I'm using an analog 12 buck cigar humidor hygrometer.
I have the temp so high because I'm growing Cambodia, and from what I've heard Cams thrive in typically abnormally high temps. (Ryche fruits his cams at 93 degrees)
I'm going to Home Depot right now to get weather stripping, and i'll shop for a digital hygrometer while i'm there.
thanks for the help... I will probably have pics on here soon enough so I can get help on my setup (if need be).
cheers,
abudiwa

Ok the hygrometer has been folded up in a wet towel since you posted that reply... and it's at 80%.
I am thinking it's a defective hygrometer... Should I just take it back and shell out the scratch for a digital hygrometer? I just wanted to cut costs where I could, but if it is worth the extra money i'll get it.
What does everyone else think?
Is a digital hygrometer worth 25 bucks? as opposed to the analog's 12 dollar price?
Thanks for the input y'all,
cheers,
abudiwa

Yeah its worth it, but if you dont want to spend it, I saw a thread somewhere within the last few days about calibrating the hygrometer using saltwater or something.
