Isn?t the sensor for temperature only?

also those digital ones tends to allow humidity to condense on them causing too high of readings

It is. The humidity sensor (and on some models a second temperature sensor) is built into the device.

I guess they will require a cleaning every couple days then.

Don't clean the humidity sensor; you'll damage it. If the air in your chamber is relatively clean, (and it should be) the sensor will take a long time to get so dirty as to significantly affect the reading.

Do you guys know if these hygrometers will cease to work correctly if I cut off the temperature sensor cable?

The ones I've used have a completely (almost) independent circuit for each function. They share only a voltage regulator upstream from the sensing circuit. Cutting off the temperature sensor shouldn't affect the hygrometer.

the extra wire is for outdoor temperature...my turtle's terrarium has the same kind of digital themometer/hygrometer...i just put the unit inside the terrarium and let the wire dangle outside so i can see both temperatures inside and outside of the terrarium...

i wouldn't cut it off but then again i'm one of those "just in case" kind of people...eventually i find a use for everything...i'd just bundle the wire up and tape it to the side...

My hygrometer is digital and the sensor is for the use of telling the temp outside. You mount it on your wall in your house next to a window and attatch the sensor to the glass of the window. That is what it is there for. Also some digital hygrometers will only tell you the humidity up to a certain point. For example the one that I have soon as it gets to 89% the next reading is HI. But that is fine with me it cost 15 dollars. Plus I am going to return it after im done using it. I am going to go analog because analog is usually more accurate then digital. For example a properly calibrated triple beam is more accurate then a calibrated digital scale. It's just a fact. I used to sell weed and I switched from a digital scale to a triple beam because i found it more accurate in tenths of grams. I would suggest to anyone an analog. They are usually the most accurate. The only advatage of digital is the word digital. Peace I'm out.

Is there such thing as a analog hygrometer?

If there is, it still will be powered electronically. Digital, Analog its all a matter of how the signal is sent and processed.

Its all done by electrons flowing down a wire.

er...no.

an analogue hygrometer has no wires. a spring coils and uncoils as it expands as the moisture level changes. it has a clock face, and no electrons play a part.

LOL, and yes the sensor does not tell you humidity, I thought it did for 15 mins after i had it out the package, then i relized how could it. The device has 3 sensors on it. One which is a wire for temp outside. One on the bottom, and on on the back for temp and humidity.
