whole brown rice/horse poo for Invitro/quart jar way????

I am looking into trying an invitro grow. I am going to follow the "Quart Jar Way-Revisited" tek on this website. Anyway i was wondering if i could just mix some horse poo and whole brown rice w/ water to make the substrate instead of just brown rice? I think it would add more nutes, and probably create larger flushes w/ bigger mushrooms.

If this is possible can i just soak the horse poo, then ring it out well and mix w/ the brown rice, and water as the tek says? ALso, do i need to pasturize the Poo, or can i just put it in my jars and PC it for steralization?

if you'll be growing invitro, i don't see any reason you shouldn't sterilize your shit... GL bro :stoned:

i was asking if putting the shit into the jars and PC'ing them is enough to steralize, or do i have to pasturize it too?

Also, i dont even know if it's a good idea to try invitro w/ shit.

pasturizing something is keeping the temp around 160-170 F... above that is sterilization.  so by pc'ing there is no longer a need for pasturization, because everythings dead already....  as for whether its a good idea to grow invitro w/ shit i have no idea, why don't you try it and let us know?... You need to understand what does what here first.  Poo is a bulk substrate, we don't germinate P. Cubensis spores on it with results.  You need to take colonized spawn ( whole rice/rye/corn/wbs/BRF cakes) and spawn it to pasteurized poo.

Spores can't get a proper foothold alone, you need to germinate them on the materials mentioned first, then transfer them to your substrate.  You're mixing up teks and terms and switching things all around here.

Pasteurization, sterilization...two different operations as well.

thanks diver, i kind of wondered if the poo would be to dense and not allow proper myc. growth. I understand that pasteurization and steralization are 2 things though. I guess ill just stick to the tek and use the whole brown rice.

good point diver, didn't think about the inoculation process... possibly w/ a nice thick liquid culture? and a sub thats not all shit. maybe shit/verm/brown rice like 30/30/40 or something...

Ive got pics of PE, China, and Pan cyan's germinated in jars with whole grain/horse poo. It does quite well actually.

The poo helps colinizing times immensely, have a couple PE's in pint jars with only 1 innoc point, almost 1/4 of the jar done in 4 days.

please post those pics, and what ratio of Poo/rice you used. Did you do the whole grow in the jars, or not?

I actually just want to see the PE's. That is Penis Envy right?

It can be done, but it's really over complicating things for his situation. Whole rice by itself fruited straight, or even spawned to pasteurized poo down the road is a much better option than fussing with integrating horse poo juice into a substrate (yuck)
