how should i continue the cycle?
    #397539 - 09/18/01 01:47 PM (23 years, 11 hours ago)

my bud has six cakes ready for birthing and six more almost there. actually one cake has already been birthed and is doing good (it started pinning today). my question is how can i use what i have now to continue the process? should i try to get all the cakes to fruit and make prints and then make a syringe? or could i use something like the "Corncob Mycelium Slurry" by ThE JafF. that is on the shroomery site under grow/find. this corncob thing seems easier that making a syringe. plus i wanted to try something other than rice cakes? i don't have much experience. so, what should i do to continue the cycle of life?

I'm not real keen on the corncob tek...never tried it. You should be alright no matter which way you go. Sounds like you'll have plenty of shrooms to do both. A print is always good to have. Think of a print as back-up. If anything goes wrong some where, your coverd because you have a print.
I remember reading something that state's a print the size of a nickel can make 6 syringes. I would personaly make 3 out of a print that size....but i'm sure you can make 6 easily.
Good Luck.......and welcome ;)

Well, since you asked this kind of question, you have to ask yourself a question. That question is , do you really want to keep doing this "cycle" , as yousay??? You see , it's easy to grow some jars full of mycelium, it's also pretty easy to make a print. But if you'r planning on using the same myceliumm that your using now for a long while, it's going to be harder than anything you expected.

You can do all types of things to increase the bio-mass of your cakes, since what you basicly now have are spawn cakes. But, if your looking at storing the mycelium as a way to grow everynow and then , your better off taking prints.

Here's what you do :

Since you have so many jars i suggest you grow all of them out and take a couple of prints.
1. Wait for your mushroom(s) that you want to print to open like they are in Ryche Hawk's pics (hheeh funny but true)
2. Take a CLEAN pair of scissors (you can do this with alcohol or peroxide or in your sink with dishcleaning liqid , whatever)
3. Open your scissors a little bit so you'r mushroom's stem fits in the middle of the two blades.
4. Close the scissors a bit and cut off the cap
5. This is important, you don't want to really touch the cap at this point, so i suggest you don't lob off your cap and just let it fall, BALANCE it on the scissors (in betweet the two blades)
6. Place your cap on a new piece of tin foil
7. place a cup over your cap and place a tooth pic or something so that the moisture can get out and your not left with a rotten mess
8. place everything in a cubbard or a drawer and come back the next day
9. you now have a print

Fold it up and put it somewhere safe and calm. Not like, umm your pocket or your shoe or in the microwave or anything silly like that ; ) . HEHEHE....

and that's it

i guess i might as well take some prints since i will have the capability. what do you guys think is the best way to increase the mass of the mycelium that i have now? i guess an example of what i am asking about would be the corncob slurry tech. is there anything else out there? where can i find info on the honey tech? by the way, thanks a lot for the help. i appreciate the time and thought that everyone puts into this community.
