Well, it looks like i found miles and miles of phalaris where i live, the problem is it's all dry. My question is, is still viable an alcaloid extraction using a dried plant ? Peace, MAIA

i hate witty sigs / if anything i say has something in common with reality, this is a merely a coincidence.

alkaloid content decrease when dried, so at a an average 0.06% 5meo dmt content phalaris is quite a shity source, then taking into account it is dry so maybe ~0.03-4 %. So the Q is are u willing to work with Kilos of it to get a bit of usable material.

Is it dry brown, or dry green(not sun faded) If its still very green then odds are the alkaloid content hasn't been affected too greatly, but if its brown your not likely to get anything worthy of the effort from it. Damn UV radiation breaks down most anything of interest. A few months ago I found a creek nearby my home that was lined with arundinacea, hopefully it hasn't died off yet.

There was also some phalaris looking like your pic, i was a bit confused, but i think some phalaris are more "open" than others. As i was saying, check this pic from the same source as yours,

Heres a little clarification for those two drawings. When phalaris is pollenating (spring/early summer) the foliage is a dark green and the "seed heads"(no seeds yet) are a nice yellow color, they contrast quite a bit. This is the best time to identify phalaris arundinacea, because few other grasses do that. After the seed heads form seeds they become more open like rommsteins pic, but they aren't always as dark as that. Depends on where they are growing. For instance on the south side of town the seed heads are a little more closed then that(not much mind you) and a light brown, while on the north end of town(probably about 40-50miles away) they are very open, and are a dark reddish brown. Anyway I can't get a positive identification from the angle of your pic, so I won't try, I'll just assume its phalaris. Neither of those drawings provide good info to identify with either. If your going to extract green is the best, alkaloid content is degraded by the sun. You may get something worth while out of it, but it will be very tedious. If you don't want to go through the mucho hard work for the extraction then go ahead and just use it for growing shrooms, just like you would straw. Maybe it will even boost psilo levels in the mush, you never know.

hello i grow 4varieties of phalaris grass yugoslav red, AQ1, (italian) aquatica (australian) and ribbon (picta) i have found through analysis that if you slow dry these grasses so they retain the green color the alkaloid content does not diminish that much usually 240g dpm = 100mg . i also have wild phalaris growing around me prolly var. angusta or caroliniana contains little active ingredients mind you its there you just have to work for it as suggested above (kilos.) if you grow the stuff and fertilize it basically domesticate it the alkaloid content increases (lots of nitrogen fertilizer) in a few summers you will have a viable strain worth harvesting also cross pollinating of wild and domesticated specie produce a very nice strain cold hardy yet high alkaloid yields. peace MJB
