No idea. Best bet would be just to google the hell out of the plant ID sites like http://plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/NSWfl.pl?page=nswfl&lvl=sp&name=Phalaris~arundinacea
Actually forget that, just do a small 1 day extraction on a hundred or so grams and see if you get spice.
Does Phalaris contain both the Meow and NN?

just out of curiosity why are you collecting the seed pods, for identification? future plantings? its the foliage you want to be after but im assuming you know that. it will be intresting if the variety has a large amount of n,n because most seem to have mostly 5-meo. not all however. also i would be curious about the gramine ratio in it. are people still concerned about gramine? i know some are and some arent but a consensus would be intresting.

I read back about 6 months ago on a forum that the purple colour present in this part of the plant was as a result of alkaloid content. I hope I didn't just do this all for nothing :S

purple doesnt have anything to do with goodie alkaloids. its just pigments that is usually expressed when exposed to cooler temps. be good practice for you but other materials are available or pretty cheap now adays.

Is Phragmites Australis a good source do you reckon?

well 40 grams or so of dry root is enough for a light Aya trip so theres definitely alks. But theres just soooo much of it growing all over the place that you could extract a rock of DMT the size of your house It is an invasive grass that grows all along roadsides all over the world.

Are you sure there aren't any DMT containing acacias down there in Tasmania?

The two I have ID'ed near here are Acacia Melanoxylon and Acacia Dealbata. They are both <0.02% alkaloids and this phalaris didn't turn up any product.
It sucks

I thought Phalaris grass was only like 0.02% itself? I don't know whether those species work but you can always try a quick extract on a hundred grams of bark to check. Be the spice mining pioneer of Tasmania.
Phragmites australis i've never tried.

haha yeah well, I am just glad we have some of the worlds best shrooms, otherwise this island would be pointless to populate :P
Phalaris arundinacea is meant to having something like 0.06% alkaloids, so I was hoping for 90mg of spice at best. There was a very very very fine white resin on the bottom of the evaporating container, but I think it was just fats and oils which were still caught up in the solvent.
I really wish there were more Tasweigans on these forums, I feel so lonely lol
