Micron Magic Sugestion?

OK using Microm magic disk's and rye tec i got only 4 our of 12 jars that didn't contam on the first try. Swcond try i got all 12 jars contamed. sencond time i re sued the same filter diskes and PCed the second disk before using. anyone got and sugestions what i'm doing wrong,/ not doing right?

could be...

spores/syringe, innoculation method, poorly sterilized substrate (HQ cant get rye down without contams), how many disks used, were the filters left wet after sterilization, basic human error... lots of things could have gone wrong. id hesitate to blame the filter disks though, since they filter down to .3 microns if used correctly. look for other possible sources of contamination, or switch your substrate and see if it helps (it did for HQ- not using disks but when she switched to birdseed it just "worked")...

i know i used them corectly bit i'm way ahead of ya, i hot jars of birdseed OCed but the lids seem to be on way to tight, i cant even budge them. Will re presure cooking them and not leting them cool so much loosten the seal of the bands?

Just bang along the edges of the metal threads on the outside of the jar with the back of a knife or screw driver and it will loosen them bad boys right up. Don't hit hard enough to break the jars themselves and don't panty waste it, hit it hard enought that it just barely doesn't dent the lid. If it makes a small dent, don't even worry about it.
