thats when you take a fully colinized jar and dunk it in the jar its in, and put the lid on, cause cakes float, and put it in the fridge for 12 to 24 hours, i recommend no more then 24 hours, then you can roll it in steralize vermiculite and place it in the fruiting chamber, what this does is shocks the mycel in telling it to fruit {the drop in temp}

Cold shocking involves placing your colonized mycelium into the fridge for about 12 hours before placing them in a fruiting chamber.
A drop of temperature, usually about 10 degrees, along with placing in light and increasing the amount of O2 and decreasing the amount of CO2, by fanning, are the triggers to send your substrate to pinning and then fruiting. Good Luck.

Well if you are doing cakes, which I am assuming you are. Than you put the cake in a container full of water so that the cake is completely submerged and and let it sit in the fridge for 12 to 24 hours. This is called dunking. You dunk right before you introduce the cakes to your fruiting chamber and in-between flushes. It is also a good idea to roll your cakes in vermiculite after dunking.
Good luck!

Should I do this when my cake is pinning or just when covered with mycellium? Or even bother? Im guessing its intended to speed up the fruiting process and I'm down for that. How much will it help?

Do not do this when pinning. When your jars are fully colonized you should dunk them in the fridge. If you want it is a good idea to do this in-between flushes to make the most out of your cakes.

Not a myth exactly just way misunderstood! Cold shocking in the fridge has it's place especially in hastening the transition from vegetative and generative growth and is of most use in very aggressive substrains. Technically with cubies the 10 degree drop from incubating to fruiting is your cold shock and by no means is a myth it is very much needed for prolific flushes consistantly. FYI GL guys

Ok..when i said it was a myth I didn't mean that the cubes didnt need a temperature drop to fruit.. I just heard that it wasnt necessary to put them in the refrig before fruiting.

It isn't necessary in most cases but some substrains respond well to fridge dunks and thats a fact I've seen over and over again. :wink: I hear what your saying though, it just needed a little clarification.

Waiting for invitro pins is really a big waste of your time :wink: Just wait until the outside (visable) is fully colonized then wait another 4-5 days for the interior of the cake to fully colonize and then birth, this way you've just taken advantage of the forth and little known pinning trigger called the survival trigger, this is when the substrate has been fully colonized throughout. GL and Welcome akpsyco
