Cold Shocking

I have a few lipa yai cakes almost fully colonized and was wondering if cold shocking this strain will be beneficial. I've had mixed responses from friends of mine but I'm looking for an answer from someone more knowledgable. Also, will cold shocking between flushes help as well? DaGeniusE

I have tried cold shocking but notice little difference in the times, fanning and humidity play much bigger roles, happy mushrooms are growing ones.

I have found cold shocking to have no noticable effects.

Same here. They both still pin at the same time for me.

Cold Shocking is usually used to enforce an even pinsit. I wouldn't even begin to argue that it helps pins develop faster.

When does cold shocking have to take place.... 1. just after you case? or 2. after you let the casing in the incubator a few more days, just before putting in the terraium?
LilMerlin, thinking of cold shocking his GulfCoast.

#2
if you do it before you *shock* the mycelium into fruiting mode and it wouldn't colonize the casing layer

Did anyone try to cold shock after a few days in the terrarium to provoke pins more quickly?

If your incubating at82-86dgr. F. then taking them out and getting a 10 degree drop cold shocking may not be neccesary. I have two lipa ya casings incubating right now. i was going to cold shock them both before putting them in an air conditioned room around 72dgr. f. but i think i'll cold shock one and not the other to see what happens. the one not cold shocked will still get a 10 degree drop. Sorry this doesn't answer your question but i'll let you know how it works out in a week or so. If you have no choice but too colonize and fruit at the same temp i would definitly cold shock to initiate pinning. If you have already achieved the neccesary 10 degree drop i don't think cold shocking between flushes will make a difference
