Can you help an information-overloaded newb?
    #3954732 - 03/22/05 04:49 PM (19 years, 29 days ago)

Alright, guys, I apologize in advance for those of you who put up with my newby ignorance. I got into shrooms a few months ago and tripped twice. I'd love to do it again, but I don't wanna pay a dealer some inflated price for it.

So I wanna grow.

But I don't have much time; and I can't figure out where to start. Like, where should I go to get a good tutorial for just like a few cakes or something? Something just for me and my friends to use.

I come on here, but there are so many forums and variations and methods...it's information overload to the max! And I don't have time to sift through everything and figure out what exactly to do.

So basically I'm looking for some advice for a newbie. Where should I go? What method should I research that is the most fool-proof, tested, and easiest?

Thanks guys.

If you don't have time for research, you don't have time for this hobby.. Sorry Brah, it's the truth. A good FoaF is getting a life lesson in patience..

Peace,

Hi

Follow this grow guide.

When you have completed cakes, skip the birthing stage and case them. Less fuss and greater chance of success than trying to fruit the damn things (I hate cakes)

That's when you'll go here:

Learn how to case

So you really think that if I don't have time to wade through the countless posts on this subject I don't have time to grow them? Damn, I might not.

Can you grow them if you have a full-time job?

Look, nobody said you have to wade through countless posts. You're making this harder than it has to be. See the mushroom cultivation tab at the top? Click on it and you'll see it branch out into different grow guides/areas. The countless posts and archives are there for when you want to learn more. The basics are in your face and easy to learn.

Screw it though, if you don't have the time then pick another hobby. You won't find sympathy here because it's too hard and requires more time than you care to invest.

Skip the Message Posts until you have looked over the Guides at the top, that Diver is referring to. They aren't as messy as trying to page through a billion posts, they are exact to the point, and easy to follow.. It's going to be your best source here for info, save the boards for follow up questions that still aren't clear. Diver gave you the best link check out the PF Tek also http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23588

It is a staple to begin with, and expand your knowledge from there.

Peace,
DG

WHat the hell brought this on? I was just wondering if any of you guys did this while working full time, because that's info that I guarantee I can't find anywhere else but here. No reason to get so nasty about it. I wasn't fishing for sympathy either, just a straight-up answer. I don't know why you felt the need to be an ass that time around, but thanks for the links in the previous post.

I think it was your response to my response, and Diver's Response to your response, that led us to where we are now.. I really wasn't trying to be an ass, but tell you that if you don't have time to learn, you won't get what you are seeking here.. Not just from the people, but the time needed to gather the knowledge to do what you want to.. Take a look at the links in this post, that will give you a good starting point, the rest is up to you..

Eh, I dunno.  One of those things I suppose?  Sorry if I came across as harsh, that definitely wasn't my intention.

Now you have me feeling all bad GatorB :crying:

Try that tek I linked, it's a great one to start with.  You can't go wrong.  See you around here~

It's D-I-V-E-R, not Driver. Thats not a car floating in that Avatar.
And it will require a lot of time. You can do it with a full time job, you just won't be doing anything else till you get the hang of it. Good Luck.

LOL! I get that a lot, maybe it's time to change a word or two again so people quit calling me driver.

Thanks HC

Follow the pftek as described above for your first time.

http://www.fungifun.org/

It's step by step from beginning to end. After that you may want to try WBS (wild bird seed) instead of BRF (brown rice flour). Not me just got a 33g fresh shroom off a pf cake which will probably end up being around 3g dry. You can definitely get enough shrooms to trip off a few pf cakes.

I really doesn't take very much time at all. I would guess maybe 1 day to get the jars ready to colonize. That's including sterilizing the jars, waiting for them to cool, building an incubator (plastic Rubbermaid tub inside another tub, bottom tub has water and an aquarium heater to keep the top tub nice and warm) and finally inoculating the jars with spores. You could greatly decrease that time if you cut it up into stages, I mean you don't have to wait around for the jars to cool.

a full time job shouldn't be a disadvantage, when i first started i was working 40-45 hours a week and still made time to sift through all the information, if anything its an advantage, because it sucks doing your first few grows and having nothing else to do with your time except sit there and wander if its going to work and peeking at your jars ever 5 hours, you could possibly go crazy. GL though.

Yes you can grow and work full time lol. You can put as little time into it as you want. Once you get your materials, you can probably get by with 2-4hrs per week. I wouldn't be at all surprised if after you start, you start looking for ways to spend more time messing with the hobby. It can be addictive.
