Just the one, its all I found. I'm sure if I searched a few pine forests I could come up with a lot more :) I'm not sure if A. muscaria would grow down your way, I know I've seen places that would surely support A. muscaria in Northern Fla., but your quite a ways down there, I doubt you'd find any. Look around the pines though, you might get lucky?
Nope, no copes yet, but I haven't visited the cube field for a while either. I might get out that way later this week and see what I can see. I have a feeling they just don't grow here in GA, or atleast only in extreme southern Ga. They seem to be a bit more tropical loving than cubes, and a bit more prolific in costal regions. Who knows though, I've seen some strange shit so far this year, and copes wouldn't suprise me one bit. Hell, it wouldn't suprise me if they showed up in that damn horse pasture :)

Hey Lizard King...
I found this baby while jogging tonight. I assumed it was an Amanita, but could you tell me for sure?
I've never tried Amanitas, so after the pictures I took this sucker into a somewhat shaded, moist area and set it cap-down onto the grass. Maybe we'll get more shroomies to greet us each day
NOTE: Despite what the pic looks like, the cap is completely white. I have a few more pics, see
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=Pictures&Number=396222&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&part=&vc=1
For the rest. Thanks!
Grover

It does appear to be some sort of Amanita, but definately not muscaria or muscaria Var. formosa. Its likely poisonous. Looks like its possibly a destroying angel or a death cap, but I'm not to good with Amanita IDs.

hey FF, when you found it, did it have a cup at the base with a veil partially up the stipe? if it had these things id say its quite certain you have a destroying angel.

Ok. I didn't handle it a whole lot, although I picked it up with my bare hands for the picture and wiped my nose before I had thought about it.
I shouldn't have anything to worry about as long as I didn't eat any of it, right?
Thank you
Grover

Mitchnast: The base was firmly in the grass and was destroyed when I picked it up, so I didn't really see. The only remnance of a veil I can see is right below the cap

hehe, glad to hear that :)
I rarely see wild mushrooms in this part of the state, and I couldn't help but snap a few (crappy Creative WebCam) pictures for the record. Psilo shroomies have done so much for me, I've fallen in love with all mushrooms (though I only eat home cultivated cubies).
Thanks for the info guys, appreciate the help

FF, offhand, I would say that is NOT an amanita. There should be a lare ring around the stem.
Best place to look for Amanita muscaria is around BIRCH. Not often will you find a single specimen, there are usually several.

That mushroom very well may be a Lepiota species. They grow in the same fashion as the Amanita and are very closely related. That cap has some flakes on it. The Destroying Angel complex and the Death cap have smooth caps. It has to do with the fashion of the egg-like structure's opening up. I guess the remnants float outwords, instead of straight up.
Again, I really don't think this is an Amanita species.
LK, I bet you haven't been in the cube fields lately, considering you're finding them in mulch of all places! :)
Stay cool!-Levi7.
