Are my cake okay?

I'm starting to feel like a bit of an idiot. I've spent many hours here and thought I was right on track, ready to give birth. Three days ago I birthed 3 cakes into a rubbermaid-type terrarium, with wet perlite, each cake sitting on sterile tinfoil. When birthed, one of the cakes had 3 little pinhead things, that happened invitro. Today they look exactly the same as when I birthed them. When I look at pics of other growers' cakes, the mycellium looks fatter, thicker, whiter - I assumed this change happened after you dumped them from the jars. Every day I fan a couple of times (my terrarium is appx 2 x 2 x 3) and I started misting the sides once a day yesterday. It's sitting on my bedroom floor, with the a/c in my house always set at 78. Should these babies look exactly the same 3 days later? I never have any condensation on the lid or sides of my terrarium, unless I mist. The perlite feels moist on the top, I see no signs of any type of contamination. The little pinhead things haven't changed one teeny bit since I popped the cake out of it's jar - is that normal? For that matter, nothing looks different. Am I okay? Also, was I supposed to try and remove that layer of vermiculite from the top of the cakes after I birthed them? I have one of them upside down (as compared to it's position invitro) and two of them right side up (because I read someone's post where that was recommended). I hate stupid questions, and I know a lot of you do too. I have read posts and teks until my eyes are crossed, but I still feel like I'm missing something. Darla

just slow down a little bit, you sound like your on speed. sometimes the pins that start invitro are aborts, this might be true in you case, but you have only waited three days. sometimes it takes over a week to start the pinning process. are you giving your cakes light? you should try putting the cakes in the fridge four about 4 hours. that should kick the pinning process in gear. just be patient
hey DEA, everything i said was false

LMAO - actually it was a pain pill because I woke up with a neck that didn't work. Now that it's worn off I feel more normal. Thanks - I'll go take a xanax. In my dream.

My thermometor reads 79-80 in the box, and 78 outside. Can you tell me what it should be and how I can accomplish a temp change without anything too technical. I'm capable of cutting plastic, but not sure I can handle setting up pumps and things. I will try, it you can point me to an "idiot's" tek. Thanks so much for any help. I still have no condensation this a.m. Darla

In my opinion, everything is ok. sometimes it takes my cakes 4 or 5 days before they start pinning

IMHO i think you will need more humidity. there ahould be about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of perlite down there and about 3/4 inches of water under that. with uncased cakes you will need about 90-95% humidity to get the pins in gear, and you should see condensation. make sure your terrarium is fairly airtight and moisture isnt leaving somehow. cold-shocking should get it moving too but i really would suggest with no condensation that you will need more moisture to start fruiting.
-------------------- Holy shit people; COMMON SENSE! we were all born with it where did it go? maybe theres a tek out there to explain how to use it! BUCKETS BRIGADE left hand man!!!

I think you're right. My cakes are totally stalled. I'm trying a few things today to see if they will get moving. 1) I bought a thin weatherstripping, and ran it around the top of my container, forcing a TIGHT fit on my terrarium, just in case I was losing my humidity around the lid. 2) I'm in Florida, and we're having some kind of tropical stuff. It's cooler outside than inside (for the first time in forever!), so I took my terrariuim and set it on the front porch to drop the temp for a little while. I'm pretty sure I've read something about cold shocking helping to initiate pins, maybe cool shocking will do something similar? Is 12 hours an appropriate amount of time for this tek? 3) I'm going to mix some H20/H202 and add some moisture to my perlite when I bring it in, I think my standing water depth is only 1/4 to 1/2 inch or so. I'll keep you posted, and thanks for everyone's help. If anyone sees a flaw with my plans please post and I will adjust accordingly. I really want to get these going. I had 6 jars in my first batch and fostered 2 of them out. Both of my foster children are doing better than my immediate family. I did save the last cake and cased it (Hongus(sp?) tek) a couple of days ago, and I have another 6 jars colonizing. I'm going to get some shrooms for my 40th birthday, no matter how much work it takes. In my dreams
